He's actually a nice, chill guy when he's not taking up his stage persona.
I'd say he's neither funny nor scary, he's just a showman, and that's not necessarily a step backwards from either of your poll options.
That said, he only really has three or four songs that I really care for. Each to their own.

I don't think he's anywhere near as good as older shock rock acts like KISS, Alice Cooper, or W.A.S.P.
But then again, thats just what appeals to me. And some of his music actually has a good point about people not fitting in and whatnot. It just sounds too much like techno for me to get into it.

You know what? Generally, I am pretty accepting of other people's musical preferences. But this guy just irritates me. Stupid, narrowminded people see the themes in his music and for some reason use that as a baisis to discriminate against members of the Gothic subculture. Maralyn Manson is the antithesis of wKhat goth stands for. Pardon my rant.
He's actually a really smart guy. I saw an interview with him once (I think it was on Michael Moore's Bowling for Columbine) and if you only listened to the audio, you'd think you were listening to a university sociology professor or something. I don't much care for his music, but he's definitely a clever cookie.
