Krav Maga and Defendu. I have never seen a martial arts designed to simply destroy the enemy before these two.

I am black belts in both, and am quite good in them.
Thats awesome. Who do you train under?

Got any favourite techniques?

I am always weary of submission based arts because, if there is more than one attacker, you can't expect to lock up with one person - this will get you killed. This is why striking should be primary, followed by joint manipulation and body mechanics (throwing). A "fight" is a situation of either life and death - throwing punches at some guy for talking shit while drunk is not what martial arts are for.
Again, this is assuming that someone is doing a Martial Art for purely street defence. In that case if they aren't doing Krav Maga or some kind of specially designed self defence system then they might not be doing the best they can.

As I said before, not everyone wants to do Martial Arts so they can do survive.

Did karate for years, but voted aikido... I like the idea of being able to control your opponent so that you don't necessarily have to harm him in order to defend yourself.

Fairly sure that a lot of it's concepts are going to be worthless against a fully trained killer, but since I'm not particularly assassin-worthy, I figure all I'd really ever have to deal with is a drunk or armed burglar.

I tried Judo and was pretty poor at it and eventually stopped after 4 or 5 years.

I'm now trying Aikido and am not good at this either but at least I have friends there which was more than I could say for Judo.

As for favourite, I don't know.

I don't know if this counts a martial art, but I'm quite good at the German School of Fencing (Unarmored Longsword, Liechtenauer tradition).
Awesome!! Which Fechtbucher do you have? (personally: Ringeck amongst others) I used to practise a style with sword and buckler (I know, not Ringeck, but still).
Anyway, it is a martial art... just a European one.

OT: Muay Thai, 'cos it's so darned violently efficient. Funny story being me and a mate of mine who used to sit at the back of lectures and spend most of the time practising strikes and counters, to the bewilderment of all around as there was often contact. Not recommended... especially when you whack him when a member of the faculty staff is loitering around. LOL

And, on a different note: I practise kenjutsu, wasn't mentioned, but meh. Love that, too...

I use Christian Tobler's book: Secrets of German Medieval Swordsmanship: Sigmund Ringeck's Commentaries on Liechtenauer
It's also the book that my fencing class uses, I used to go to VAF (Virginia Academy of Fencing), but now I can't (I have crew).

I'd say my favorite is either Krav Maga (infinitely practical, no nonsense, and designed to work under actual, real world fighting conditions) or Sambo (for many of the same reasons, but it also reflects my Russian heritage!).

What involves "Twiching around your leg or foot, grabbing it,then hurling you over my shoulder"? Cuz I know that. Followed up with a "Stomp or jab to the trachea". Fight to survive, ladies and gents...

Used to practise with kenjutsu classmates on different styles, so one of them was in Codex Wallerstein (can't remember, but someone had a facsimile of it) and combined that with a Liechtenauer commentary. Made for some interesting sparring matches east v west under the auspices of the sensei naturally (who ironically is Chinese).

Hokey religions from Science fiction junk movies are no match for martial arts at your side...

Your sad devotion to that ancient movie series has not helped you to cunjure up a better response then this?

So do the moderators i guess because i got a warning. But i guess if you don't know it came from star wars, it did sound a bit rude. My brother is a total starwars fan of the old films, so i hear the lines almost every week.

OT:

Taekwondo!

Krav Maga.

Google it. Be amazed.

I voted for Aikido on this list though, just because it's fun.
