I am interested to hear people's opinions on the "Martyrdom" ability in Call of Duty 4.

I believe it's unfair and annoying, as it results in a cheap kill, and if someone has the ability to knife you, they shouldn't feel the repercussions.

I bring this up, as Valve is introducing new weapons patches for Team Fortress 2, and I think Infinity Ward should use this to delete Martyrdom, as well as make other adjustments, as they please.

if someone has the ability to unleash redemption, i don't think they should feel the repercussions.

its just a part of the game, admittedly one that adds a new level of mind-buggery, but if we start leveling out the playing field, all you are left with is a leveled field, thems the breaks.

those are my opinions, do with them what you will.

I cant believe an ability like Martyrdom was put in the game in the first place. I have several problems with it and I'll explain them.

1) There is no way to prevent Martyrdom : This is probably the thing I hate most about this ability, most of the time the grenade dropped can be hard to avoid and you only have a second or two to get out of the way. If this ability could be prevented with a headshot, knifing or explosion like Last Stand then it wouldn't bother me so much.

2) Martyrdom requires no active effort to "use" : If you are going to include an ability that allows a player to kill another player, at least have the player make an effort. Even with cheap kills like the RPG or Grenade Launcher, you have to at least aim and pull the trigger. With Martyrdom you don't have to do anything at all, you could literally log-in, do nothing, and probably get a couple of kills. That's not exactly fair, make the player do something to use it.

3) A Martyrdom grenade; 9 times out of 10 is unavoidable : Simple enough, add more time onto the grenade, at least then more pro-active players can have some way to defend against it.

That's just me though. I personally think it should be removed. Or at the very least modified to make it more balanced.

Am I the only one who thinks this ability is fair? It's really not that hard to avoid. All you have to do is sprint a short distance after knifing the martyr. I only get killed by martyr maybe 10% of the time, and that's only because I got careless.

It adds another interesting layer to the combat. How is that bad?

I have a class that is shotgun, P90, juggy and Martyrdom.
Its only any good on shipment or when I am getting torn to pieces. Its scappy, low and I hate using it but I sometimes have no other opinion. I would like to to say get rid of it, but then there will be times when I will spawn and die moments latter.

I do use it well, like when leading the way for a bomb carrier, or trying to stop a bomb carrier. More of a issue for me is the three nade perk, grenade spaming!

Yeah, Martyrdom is extremely cheap. It's an easy way for people who are bad at the game to pad their kills. And Zemalac, I doubt you only get killed 10% of the time. I'm really bad at the game, and even I refuse to use Martyrdom. I believe it is just plain stupid.

I agree with Zemalac. Martyrdom is only a problem if you melee kill someone, and even then you almost always get to run away in time. If that isn't the case you just didn't react quickly enough, since there's a VERY small chance you could never get away on time in the first place.
If you want to remove this one, then you should remove last stand as well, and that would be just stupid.

Come on, it's in the game. Live with it! And hey, you can use it yourself too... ><

(And no, I do NOT use it myself)

What if you're in a close range fire fight? Often with multiple opponents. Its not so easy to avoid those grenades if you are fighting in tight coridors and their are other enemies you have to fight.

The problem of Martydom is that it punishes players who do what their supposed to: beat their opponent, while rewarding players who fail and die. And isn't the game explosive enough already?

It's a good perk, which makes you think about what you're doing, and can be tactical in many situations.

It's possible to avoid in any situation. I would never use it though, because I'd rather use that perk on something that stops me dying in the first place, like steady aim.

Meh, in hardcore mode i die more often from my friends martyrdom grenades then my enemies. To be honest i become reflex to move away from recently killed people.

The main time its really a problem is when (real example) I kill 2 guys both drop martyrdom, from somewhere another grenade appears in another direction, so I have 3 nade indicators all in separate directions and I'm in the middle, theres no possible counter, especially with my lag I often get killed before the grenade indicator is up.

I think it is pretty satisfying to get a kill way after I have died, but I will say that It gets confusing. I often wonder where the live grenade comes from when I have already used up my grenade.

It's a legitimate strategy.
I only have it on my grenadier class for use on Wet Works and Shipment. Those maps are basically pure nadespam and the only way to do well in them, and a few other maps, is apparently to go with the flow and spam nades like hell.

Despite their effectiveness, I have to admit that the game would be better if they reduced the amount of nades, airstrikes and helis to keep the chaos to a manageable level.

I don't understand why people whine about this because

IF YOU HAVE ANY COMMON SENSE YOU WILL INSTINCTIVELY AVOID DEAD PEOPLE

it can sometimes be impossible to avoid, but hey, it happens

I don't mind the perk itself. But considering that a noob(because 90% of people who use Martyr are noobs) had already spammed the hell out of his 3x frag, where does the fourth grenade come from? Does it just magically spawn out of your ass?

If you could only use Martyr when you had a spare grenade, there would've been a lot less Martyr-whoring.Trust me.
