I always felt Marvel was a much more connected universe to ours, the heroes were in real cities, their storylines often reflected the world situations in interesting ways, and the characters I always felt were far more grounded in reality.
Saying that though, I think the only reason I prefer Marvel to DC is because I grew up with a whole bunch of Marvel cartoon shows, and didn't get into DC until my late teens.
And Alan Moore only does DC stuff, so that gives those boys quite a big bit of credence.
