So I suppose it has nothing to do with ME1 being a MICROSOFT GAME STUDIOS game then
Glad you told me its BioWare being lazy
/sarcasm
BioWare are being lazy with it. ME1 is only a MGS related game on the X-Box 360. EA published it on the PC, and I'm pretty sure that they would release it on the PS if they had the chance.

OT: I am happy for this. While I already have it on my PC, it is good to see fellow PS gamers give it a whirl.

I can't see how more people getting to play it is a bad thing. Bit of a shame they won't get ME1, as that really does make the experience whole, and I kinda doubt a comic or w/e will do it justice, but hey, more Mass Effect is more Mass Effect.

EDIT- okay, seeing some other people's posts raises a few points. Some say they'd only be happy if it got loaded with all sorts of extras that the 360 and PC versions didn't have....why? Okay, the comic or w/e to make up for not having ME1 is a gimme, but wanting a full version of ME1 on the disc, "fixed" no less with ME2 control scheme and what-not, seems a little much, but THEN saying they want their versions of ME2 to have all sorts of features and such the 360 and PC versions didn't...again, why? What makes you so entitled? I'm all for games going multi-platform, more the merrier I say, but when one version gets released with a bunch of features the other versions don't get, I just have to call "bullcrap! why don't we get that, too?" There's a right way to go multi-platform, and a wrong way.

it's not that they're being lazy it's that they can't. the first one was produced by microsoft so i don't see them letting sony get their hands on it. the second one was produced by EA and they allowed it to be ported over so be mad at microsoft, not bioware

Owning only a 360 means that I try to own the console exclusives to support my brand, but when I saw Mass Effect 2 was coming to the PS3... I actually wasn't angry.

I was really pleased with this, because this means that whenever I bring it up in conversation more people will know what I'm talking about and therefore more people can agree with me about how awesome this game is!

I see it as a way to bring unity to gamers when certain games go multiplatform, not as a bad thing. So, what are all you guys'/girls' thoughts?
I was incredibly angry. PS3 owners are the low life urchins of existence, and anything that makes them happy, makes me angry. I am 100% behind the idea of making owning a PS3 being a crime punishable by death to the owner, AND all their family. I mean, clearly we don't want their tainted genes in our pool anymore.

Afterall, the Atari 2600 is the only REAL console out there anymore, why don't those crazy PS3 fanboys know this?
wow, really? That's just sad, I pity you. unless you were joking

Was me praising a 20 year old console too much of a giveaway? I was being a bit satirical because I can't imagine how a game being ported to another console could ever be a bad thing.

I am not excited about Mass Effect 2 coming to PS3. You wanna know why?

Because Mass Effect isn't coming to PS3.

Why in the holy name of fuck would they release a sequel to another platform, but not the first? Especially with a story-centric game like ME. Us PS3 gamers are shit out of luck, because we can't get our own backstory by playing ME and making our own decisions, which as I understand can affect your ME2 storyline, so instead we'll have to start from scratch in the middle of the plot, essentially.

This is really lame, honestly.

The only thing console exclusivity does is deny a game to people who don't have a certain console.

A good game should be on as many consoles as possible. Spread the enjoyment. Make the world a better place.

They get a great game, BUT they don't get ME1.

Which is shit, because that limits the story to the max. They will all have to conform with the default story, which is shit.
So, while ME2 on PS3 is alright, it will be inferior because they cannot unlock the different outcomes that were possible in ME1.
That is where the interactive comic comes into play. In that they will go through the choices that were in ME1 to alter the ME2 story.

Also, you can get it for the computer for around $15 so it is your own fault for not playing it by now.

Good for them. ME2 is one of the most enjoyable games I've played in some years. I also don't think the story will lose too much from only having the in-game comic of ME1, as while you won't be nearly as pumped for the beginning, all the main characters for the most part have changed, so I don't imagine they'll miss out on too much.

That and ME1 was a fairly average game which they'd have to suffer through.

i don't really see why that would be a negative? it's not like us xbox users are shallow enough to go "oh wow mass effect is such a great series, oh what's that ps3 user? it's xbox exclusive? SURE SUCKS TO HAVE SUCH A TERRIBLE, GAMELESS SYSTEM, doesn't it?"

well, MOST xbox users aren't that shallow.

Uh... I don't have a PS3, I had ME1 on xbox (mah friend broke it) and I have the (very shitty) pc port. I have Me2 with my imported ME1 character.

So what was my fault again?
Edit: Plus, an interactive comic just isn't the same as being able to play the game yourself and joying everything it has to offer. And by that, I mean NOT playing a different version on a different system and not being able to transfer your actual character to ME2 on your PS3.

Whenever I lose a PS3 exclusive, or someone who only owns a ps3 says "can I come over and play ______", I'm actually happy. I know exclusives are always more worked on that multiplatform games (well, generally they are), but I hate the idea of someone not being able to play a wicked game, and when you say "check out _____, you'd love it!" and they respond with "I don't have a 360....", I feel that the only reason they're missing out on a wicked experience is because they don't own both consoles.

Some people are unhappy because they love their brand of console, which is fair, and don't want the other brand(s) to get their exclusive games. I used to feel that way but eventually, you just stop caring and just start sharing (d'awww...). But I think you know what I mean.

Not YOUR fault, but who ever didn't play ME1 because of their console.
I have a PS3 and I saw the PC port (which I thought was better except for a few glitches) so I could see the whole story.

Porting to PC and porting to PS3 are two very different things. Quite a few Microsoft games studio games get ported to PC, but I've never seen any on the PS3. While EA may have gained rights/paid MS to publish on the PC I would be willing to bet that either MS owns the rights to the game or at the very least has an exclusivity contract with regards to console releases.

Even assuming there isn't, I can't imagine ME1 would sell that amazingly given all the work that would be required to port it. Who would buy the game at full retail price given it's a good 3 years or so old? Not many I'd be willing to bet. A 6 month old game that has received little other than praise however they can charge full price for. There isn't much incentive to port a title you'll only be able to sell for bargain bin prices from release. Especially given how difficult it seems to be to port from 360 to PS3, that must get expensive.

Much better.
Also: As I said, the PC version is... quite terrible compared to the xbox version. I was pretty surprised to find this out back when I booted up my pc copy up for the first time.
