Yes i realize theres tons of threads concerning both topics both nothing specific so im making this one. Im realy curious about how many of you have thought about Origin, just excactly what it is and what it means.

First of im extremely biased, EAs systematic destruction of Bioware and all it stood for has pissed me of like a fangirl at a twilight burning session but thats another discussion. Ive been a huge fan of Mass Effect since the first game along with Dragon Age and pretty much any pre-EA or early EA Bioware title. And i have big grievances with the mainstreaming and like Yahtzee would put it; Big-Manly-Muscular-Space-Marine-Syndrome thats been infecting everything in gaming from puzzlers to what previously were deep story centered RPGs.

Despite this pre-booking Mass Effect 3 was always a no brainer for me but what was the turning point is Origin. Its very easy to dismiss all these new things that game companies spell up as mainly its just nerdrage and nothing of real consequence with some exceptions. When it comes to Origin however its simply a step to far, it quite literaly gives EA the right to any information it feels like farming from your computer AND gives them the right to sell this information to any 3rd party they feel like. Dramatic or not this is pure simple spyware, exactly the kind you use all kind of programs to keep out of your computers and with good reason. People rage about these things, forget it and use it anyway. To use an insulting term, which I am a real fan of, people are sheep and its realy that simple.

What im curious about is how many of you out there realy realize what Origin means for personal integrity, which used to be a very missused word but is becoming something to think about, gaming and the future of both. We both know that until the sales numbers say stop big companies like EA will keep pushing the limit a little at a time simply cause its profitable and they are big enough in the business to dictate most rules. I personaly will not buy Mass Effect 3 as a Origin exclusive. I wont let it into my computer any more than id let someone install a cam in my bathroom, spyware on my computer or snoop through my mail and sell it to whoever they want. How many of you out there have realy considered this and taken a stand one way or another?

Sorry for the wall of text, tried to minimize it but guess i got carried away..

Hurray for Xbox! Sorry you won't be enjoying the game, but judging how much I've been playing the multiplayer demo, theres nothing going to stop me getting this!

If I did have to get it on PC, I would without a second thought. I couldn't give a toss what EA get off my computer.

I've had Origin on my computer since October, I start it up when I want to play a game, I shut it own when I'm not. It's not like it's killing my computer slowly like all of the "EA is the Devil" people want you to believe. For the most part, I don't even notice it's there seeing how it usually takes less processing power than Steam.
Am I happy that I have to have it for the game? Not really, but it's not like it's really that big of a deal. And has yet to be a deal breaker for me seeing as it's just EA's Download Manager with a shiny new name and UI.
As for 'evil scanning' that EA does to the computer, I don't really care, especially since I don't have any pirated software on my computer, or any illegal material on it.
And the cursing getting you banned from you games, well try and be civil on their websites instead of throwing every name in the book at the person. Or if you can't be civil for some silly reason, just don't go to their forums. Problem solve and everyone's happy!

Origin is glorified spyware, thats how I look at it. So as much as I would like to play mass effect 3 I adamantly refuse to put that spyware on my PC. EA is essentially asking for private information including my work and personal writing/artwork and Im having none of it. If Bioware wants to do a reasonable release where I dont need spyware to run the game Ill be ready to buy ME3 because I enjoyed the last two games and want to see where its going. As long as ME3 requires Origin Im boycotting it and all other titles that require it.

I've got plans to upgrade my PC in the next two months, but ME3 is one of the few PC/Console games where I'm going to be going in the console direction.

Reasons:

1 - I've got a Shepard that's been in service since ME1 on my XB360's HD. I'd like to see things through to the end with her...
2 - Origin, AT THIS EXACT POINT IN TIME, sucks.

Honestly, the problem with Origin is that resembles Steam at it's infancy. Long before Steam was the powerhouse of deals it is today, it was berated as 'That stupid piece of crippleware I have to install to make HL2 run'. Well, that's where Origin is. It's 'That stupid piece of crippleware I have to install to make ME3 run'. Give it a year or two and maybe, MAYBE... it could be something worthwhile...

Origin is less intrusive and facebook-ish, so yeah, doesn't really affect my purchase of ME3.
Unlike Skyrim, which I won't ever buy as long as it's a steam exclusive.

Your poll is needlessly complicated. Should stick to the KISS motto.

I've honestly found no problems with Origin. I'll probably get a hard copy so I don't have to download it to get it on my PC if I uninstall it, but that still requires Origin so whatevs.

I'll still probably get it, and unless the performance of my computer significantly drops or a warrant gets issued for my arrest I'll just tough it out with Origin.

Sorry you won't be enjoying the game because of your silly reasons.
I can't wait to play this on my Xbox! Even if it was PC, I'd still get it. I've had Origin since September, and it hasn't affected me at all.

Of course I'll buy it. And I'll play it too. And probably use Origin too.

It's too late, it already reached his brain.

You're missing the point. Nobody cares about how much memory and processing power Origin takes away.

You don't have illegal things? How do you know? Child porn is distributed by "zombie" computers. Chances are, you have traces of child porn on your HD. I know that if your computer was searched, there would be a chance that there would be incriminating evidence.

Anyway, what matters is your personal info.

This is a pretty radical example, but if you lock your door and use password on your credit card why would you deliberately create an access point to your information on your computer?

I'm not buying it straight away, but I'll probably buy it eventually to finish off the trilogy. ME2 left me cold, and I have issues in the direction it took in gameplay, story and fan service.

I use and am happy with Origin though, their pricing is just as stupid as Steam so I buy all my games either via retail, GamersGate (when available), or four years down the track when the Steam prices are reasonable.

Origin in practice is better than Steam for me, I get faster downloads, offline mode is available when I am offline, and it is less resource intensive (not that my PC bats an eyelid at Steam either). It is a shame that it is EA exclusive, so there aren't a lot of great titles, but EA do publish some games I like, so it is fine for those.
