I actually thought Ashley was hot in a tomboyish way in the first game. I don't really like how they feel they have to make her look "girly", it kind of breaks her character a bit. Her xenophobia was a turn off, but she at least had an understandable reason to be the way she was.

I killed her in my paragon character's game while romancing her because I wanted to see if it was acknowledged that he left his lover to die on Virmire in the second game(I was disappointed that it was never brought up, even when romancing Tali).

I wanted to role-play my soldier Shepard as a tragic figure who grew up on Earth with no family running with gangs, sitting by on Akuze and watching his friends die and losing someone he loved on one of the toughest missions of his life.


And I rambled a bit there.

All Jack needs is her loyalty outfit to be the best looking companion. I dunno, shaved heads are pretty at times.

Miranda is only supported by tose who like boobs and decadence.
Tali's got her own fairly large, weirdly commited fanbase.
Liara kinda fell off the radar for most people after Tali became available.
Everyone wishes Kasumi was an LI but she isnt =P
My vote for Tali as much better than both old racist-***** Ashley and new probably racist-slut Ashley.

Tali supports slavery and genocide of sentient beings.
Ashley supports being careful with other races who probably have their own interests at heart.
How is Ashley the racist ***** in this scenario?

Because of how Bioware presented the two characters.
Whenever Ashley mentions the issue, Shepard usually gets a response along the lines of "Your a Racist! You big Racist you!"

When Tali is talking about reclaiming her home world or the Geth, you usually cant call her out on it. I guess most of the player base never noticed because of that.

I think certain members of the team let their own political opinion spilled over into the game. It's pretty subtle, probably unintentional.
If it was done on purpose, then it was very sneaky. Even if the allegory wasn't.

Mass Effect; your primary enemy is the Geth. You're shooting thousands of Geth in the facelight. Tali doesn't like Geth.
No problem.

Mass Effect 2; you find out all those Geth were bad, and oh look there's a GOOD Geth helping you. Tali's loyalty mission decides how you want to react to the Geth.

See, this is different than Ashley because she's just gerally xenophobic. Presumably against Turians more than anything else because of the little war and all, but Humans and Turians get along fairly well now so baseless xenophobia ahoy!

My Paragon Shepard romanced her, but he doesn't advocate war/genocide against the Geth. I do wish you could say more to try and guide her opinions, but she at least seems to start thinking differently when you talk her and Legion down when they're fighting on the Normandy.

It's cool, I've still got plenty of time to do a playthrough where Alenko bites the bullet and Williams can go on being alive and useless.

I wonder if Legion will also dual purpose as an awesome character and take on a sort of... Fist-o kind of role. I'd totally go for that option. If over 4 it becomes an orgy, what does it become when you get over 400?

Anyway, Jack is the by far the most three-dimensional character in Mass Effect.

Well, a choice between my Shepperd's genetically superior second in command or Ashley (who I didn't romance in the first, in fact in that play-though of ME1 I romanced no one as I knew enough about the second to realize there were better choices) I will go with Miranda assuming she is around in the third. Consider of course that Sheppard thanks to extensive genetic and cybernetic augmentation will live at least as long as Miranda, and their partially cloned (as Miranda is sterile) children would be genetically superior as well.

That is assuming the commander lives through the third game which to me is not absolute. I would bet that he dies in most if not all end-games.
