It probably could be done, but I wouldn't approve. I think Mass Effect excelled as a single-player game and that it should therefore stay that way.

Bad idea in the MMO market its focus or sink, if Bioware divided their attention to another MMO from the old republic its sink patches, customer support, content, balance issues pve/pvp etc. WoW utterly swallows anything that goes in giving less than 100% and the MMO community at large is one of the whiniest, nitpicking communities ever to grace the web.

Nah I don't think it'd work, at least not if it followed the same story as ME. So they'd have to follow a different story in the same universe, but the story told in the existing games is going to make whatever other stories they could come up with seem lame

no. just no. it would work. but i would hate to see it. mmos should be new ips as far as im concerned. i dont like people making mmo's sequals then never giving us a real sequal. like kotor. plus i dont like mmos.

note to self: if you put up an option as "PANCAKES!!" people will vote for that.

Well you see. Now I can not vote yes since you put "It will be the best game ever!" Anytime someone says something soo stupid I just want to push their face into a meat grinder on general principle. And if I were to say something like that, even indirectly, I would have to kill myself for betraying my over the top awesome nature.
Anyway eh, I do not think MMOs in general work so no. It would not.
Fine, I hope my chance in the poll will be good enough for your "over the top awesome" nature. goddamn.

The Star Wars universe is HUMONGOUS though. and it has tons and tons of lore. more than enough content for a MMO.

A Mass Effect MMO could be made, but it would be a lot harder to create a good story that is that huge.

I myself was more interested in the possibility of exploring worlds to lay claim to resources and wildlife rather than run-and-gun combat while thinking of a Mass Effect MMO.

Something with the vast exploration possibilities of Star Control 2 combined with a leveling system complete with feats and/or skills of a modern MMO. Maybe EVE, but more personal. You actually have to get out of your ship and the economy isn't as... all encompassing.

I just have a hard time accepting squad-based real-time MMO-style dungeoneering with firearms. Just something about guns and Hit Points makes me queasy.

Mass Effect is brilliant because of a lot of factors, and it works so well in the genre it's in. It probably wouldn't work well as an MMO. The story and player choices would go out the window, and without those you lose a lot of the overall quality.

No, it would ruin the game, Don't change what isn't broken. Anyway the combat system wasn't boring enough to be in a MMO, hahaha i think thats funny, sorry.

You asked for it...

umm, lets think about the "different" alternatives you suggested...one has humans, elves, undead, dragons, mages, and such set in a midevil (esque) environment.
remind you of any other MMOs.

sry just had to point that out

I think it could work. The universe is vast enough for it to work.

I lol'd. Honestly, there's a lot of swords and sorcery MMOs, but a lot of Sci-Fi MMOs are coming out.

I don't think anyone would disagree that the MMO market is over-saturated, but I would enjoy a Mass Effect MMO.

How about a MMO set in the real life. But instead of killing giant rats and looting, you just keep your avatar from craping their pants and killing normal-size mice with a family of others. The Sims sells well, so why can't this?

I think you answered your own question. They're making SW:TOR.

Why would they cannibalize their own player base (Sci-Fi MMOers)?

Plus MMOs need to be games that don't take absurd system reqs in order to allow a broad base, and ME the MMO would definitely need high system reqs in order to look as good as it does in an MMO.

No.

It will be fucking awful. There is no need to make every RPG an MMORPG which are, quite frankly, the bane of the RPG world.

Well, it would seem to be quite a cool idea. However, you had pancakes in the poll, and you just can't compete with those...

I may or may not have voted pancakes.

Seriously though, the combat in Mass Effect isn't worthy of an MMO. It was pretty bland.
Is this supposed to be ironic?

Can it be done? Offcourse; plenty potential there.

Would I like that? HELL NO, Mass Effect is a flawed diamond and if ME2 is half as good we have a serious GotY contender.

The only company that would make Mass Effect MMO good would be Bioware.

Because we know how Obsidian butchered Neverwinter Nights. And Bioware won't ever make Mass Effect MMO (maybe after the 3rd game), because of TOR.
