Yeah, I'd care. Because I'd want in on the scheme myself. I'd up the ante to 99p per bank account. £21 or so million split equally, that's more like it.

Would I care if someone stole 20 cents from my bank account? Yes. It's not just about the amount of money.

Would I care if someone stole 4 million dollars from an entire populations bank account? Absolutely.

This is a silly 'moral' question.
What if that person was ding for a good reason, and then you have to think about the taxs that are wasted on things like war or corruption.
Well, neither of those things were presented in the topic, so I didn't address them. But still, it would have to be an incredibly "good" reason and even then I would care. How I feel about the government using my money is irrelevant when discussing whether or not I care if Joe Schmo hacks into my bank account, because those things are different.

Probably, because somebody getting into my bank account (or anything of mine, in fact) freaks me out. I'd be constantly worried that the 20 cents (or pence, as it would be) were just a test to see if you got in before you take a larger amount.

If it was out my bank account i would flip my shit. I trust the bank to look after my money and not let it go wandering.

However if it was off my coffee table or out my pocket i wouldn't give a shit thats my fault for being careless.

I guess that sums it up really.

Isn't this what governments do? Steal a small amount of money from the accounts of everyone in the country? :D
Nope, the steal large amounts of money.

But hey, it's not all bad. Those large amounts of money are going toward good things at least. For example shooting brown people in countries nobody cares about.
I shouldn't have but the sarcasm and irony of this post made me laugh my ass off. Well played smash :p

Yes, but only because it highlights a vulnerability in my bank account. If it can happen once, it can happen again.

ok steal less than half a cent and do it multiple times, no one will notice
Historically, this has turned out not to be the case more than once.

Mind you, there could be more people that are getting away with it, but banks tends to keep an eye on this sort of thing.

If someone were to make a virus and steal 20 cents from every person in a country/bank and is clever enough to get away with it too, I'd applaud them. I'd just think "Go, spend my twenty cents and enjoy it. But don't do it again." I would also inform my bank about lack of security, and expect them to revamp it. Because if someone can steal twenty cents out of my bank account, then someone could also take everything in that account. And I would care about that.

Counter question:

Would you care if 10,000 people each stole $0.20 from your bank account?

I wouldn't care if someone stole such a small amount from me, but the fact they stole it from my account would piss me off. That means my account isn't safe. As Sonic would say, that's no good.

But doesn't stuff like this happen all the time? Like when people embezzle from a company this is usually the method they use, right? Take tiny amounts over a long period of time so no-one notices?

Someone tried to do this in america, (back in the late 70s I think)
He got caught, but he had racked up about 2 million by that point

Oh and would I be bothered? I doubt there's that much in there!
