First of I'm not sure if this is the right place for this Topic of mine, but I was suddenly hit with the idea of a game involving the following stuff and wanted to share it to you people and get to know if it would be a doable/makeable thing, also this game won't probably ever get a chance to be more than an idea.

Feel free tell what you think of it, to give your own ideas on how to improve this and also what currently makes this an impossible & unlikely thing to be made in the near-future or if ever.

Short version: The game is a campaign in which two or more factions exist, depending on how many survived the early stage of the game and after that is played out in a open-world and which goes forward in the story through missions. Depending on how each mission ends the the next mission gets influenced aswell as how the game will end. In the game you'd get to experience FPS, RPG, tower-defence and what else you could imagine would be needed to make the campaign unfold itself in a plesant manner to the player.

Long version with examples and more:
The way in which the game evolves would/could be abit like how you procced in the campaign of the C&C:Tiberian Saga, where you have Nod and GDI and their corresponding campaigns.
In their campaigns each mission is like an exact opposite to the other ones mission, e.g. Save Dr.Mobius or Kill Dr.Mobius (not the exact name, but should ring some bells if you played the first part of the saga).
The game wouldn't be a RTS like C&C, but more like an "open-worldish" place in which the campaign gets to unfold itself.

So First of the game itself would consist of two or several factions and the factions get to shape how the game unfolds, depending on how the "missions" in the campaign are completed by each faction, as in if the end up in failiures or complete success or perhaps in a partial failiure but you got a small portion of it completed.

Also at the launch of the game you would be given the choice of joining a pre-existing faction or make your own one and during the first phase of the game, you'd be apart of shaping how the campaign will start and which factions end up as the ones new players will get to join, if they didn't start playing it at the launch or the next days/weeks.

After the factions have been decided on, a mission could be something like this:
There is 3 Factions.
One of them is tasked with escorting a group of people from place A->B, another one is tasked with stoping them and the last faction is tasked with sabotaging something at an important outpost to either one of the other factions.
Now the thing would be that you get to decide how to complete these missions, for example the first faction doesn't have to go straigth from point A->B, but are allowed to go through point A->T->H->S->C->B to try and shake of the second faction which was tasked with stopping the escort, if they have to.
Another thing would be that the mission doesn't end until either the group has been escorted to place B or stopped by the other faction, so in other words the third factions mission wouldn't end when they complete it.
Also while the first two factions are struggling with the escort, they'd have to deal with the sabotaging that the third faction is doing, if they'd notice that they're getting sabotaged.

Now this was only an example of how one mission of the campaign could look like and since it's a campaign there would be diverisity in the missions and how you'd get to play the game. For example, in the escort mission it would be abit like an FPS, while in another mission it could be more like a RPG or perhaps a tower-defense, depending on in which faction you are.
So if the mission requires one faction to go commando in a FPS-ish manner somewhere, then the other faction could be given a bird's-eye view of the place where the other faction is supposed to go to and then control a select group of AI in a RTS-ish manner in order to patrol/defend that place.
So the more people that go commando from that one faction the more people would be needed to control more AI from the other faction (one player vs several AI and the teamwork by the opposing factions and the tactics they come up with would lead to either parts success in the mission, depending on what their mission was)

Also there'd be many servers up which are at different phase of the campaign and which are influenced by how each mission has ended by the different factions that exist in that server.
So if you're new to the game, you'd have a chance to experience the beginning and make an impact on how the campaign will unfold at an early stage.

To be edited, when I or you come up with more improvements for the idea, if a majority gives it a Yes in the Poll.

(The first topic I created on this forum and hopefully it was readable for you)

You pose an interesting idea.

I don't know much about the creation of games, so it would be hard for me to say if it was do-able. ( I voted yes).

The idea of 3 factions intrigues me- especially since its not a "choose one faction and do the same story line with what ever faction you choose" type thing.

One thing that did stand out to me was the "tower defense" idea. I have played too many recent games with a crappy TD mechanic thrown in *cough* assassins creed *cough* it it ruined the whole idea for me.

Of course if it was implemented well, that is another story.
