Here is a question, would you pay money for Media that you have already consumed? By media I mean things like Movies, TV shows, Anime, Books, Video Games Etc. To re-watch it again, have it in your collection, or support the studio that made it. It could also be because you feel guilty about not paying for it the first time and want to make up for it, or having lost the first copy you had.

The reason I ask is because I recently decided to buy some anime for myself, I bought both seasons of Code Geass and Claymore. I loved both of them, they were some of the first anime I have ever seen. The reason I decided to buy them again is because I want to see them again, and I decided that if I ever watch the same anime twice I want the second time to be in good quality.

This question is related to things that you would not have to pay for, but rather want to pay for. As in, pay per view movies that you pay for at the end of the month don't count.

Well not quite in the spirit, but after playing Mirror's Edge, I'd pay a fair amount for a novelisation, especially since I keep hearing that a depressing amount of story was cut from the final game.

I've already done it, there are a few movies I've bought after having watched them and games I bought after I played them with some other people or rented them, have never really bought a TV series, I probably should, but anyway I've already done it, so I guess, sure if I like it enough I will.

Mostly yes.
Especially for books, sometimes once isn't enough. And it's much easier to read it again when it's now your possession :D

Define "consume"?
If you mean like I watch a perticular anime first time when it was online then yes I sometime do buy the dvd of that anime if I like it enough. Likewise I buy it despite already watch it online is to support the companies (the studio and the company that distribute it) and I ain't no thief when it come to online. Also I get to watch the extras and hear it in dub.

I also bought a game again despite I had imported it (Phantasy Star Zero). Again it was to show support and to play that game again using different classes.

Yes. There have been lots of books and games that I bought after having borrowed them from a friend and decided that I liked them so much that I wanted to own them, even though they were still readily available if I wanted to reread or replay them. I buy albums only after I've heard them on youtube. In fact, the vast majority of media I own, I bought after having already consumed it. I used to never buy music because every CD was a risk. I might like a few songs from a band but that was no guarantee I would like the rest. Now I have the option of listening to whole albums before investing in them or only buying the songs I like. If I can't listen to an album beforehand I won't buy it.

That's why I don't think piracy is necessarily a bad thing. I genuinely think most people are loyal and honest, and if they like an author/musician/developer they will choose to contribute to them. For every sale gained by someone who chose to take a risk and ended up buying an overpriced game which they hated, for example, I think you lose out on people who are not willing to fork out full price and risk buying a game they might not like, but would probably contribute to the best of their ability if they discovered they liked it. I think unscrupulous business practices do far more to 'harm the industry' than piracy ever will.

I don't condone piracy.

When it comes to upgrading formats (VHS -> DVD -> Blu-Ray) I have in the past and likely will continue to do so but only when it comes to movies I really like (I think I've bought Bad Lieutenant: New Orleans twice and I have multiple copies of the original Star Wars Trilogy for example).

When it comes to games however, I can't bring myself to buy HD editions of games but I will buy the original games if I can find the cart/disc...then again on reflection a part of me does want to pick up the HD re-releases of Silent Hill and Devil May Cry for achievements but it seems kind of pointless to do so when the originals can be found very easily compared to other games which have been re-released.

When it comes to books (afterthought) I refuse to buy a digital book but I will always re-buy a book if my original copy becomes unreadable for one reason or another. Ya know what here's a blanket statement: I refuse to buy anything digitally if I can buy a physical version. When I spend money I want to show something for it.

I have bought films I had already seen, I have bought CD's have already heard and even books I had already read, mostly because the stuff in question was just that good.

I only ever pirated two games, one of them was Mirrors Edge because I was very sceptical about it even after watching gameplay videos. I did enjoy it very much, and decided it was more than worthy of my money. If I hadn't payed for it I'd likely feel bad about it X3. I don't pirate stuff because I don't like feeling like a pirate/thief/whatever. It makes me feel bad because I think it's wrong!

As I can observe, anime fans are VERY big on this whole pirating thing. I have a lot of friends who are massive anime nerds, but it's extremely rare that any of them EVER buy a series, or even watch it legaly. It's pretty much all downloaded with NOTHING going to the creators. They still praise these shows into the sky, calling it the best entertainment ever. They spend several hours every day watching and catching up on series, and they cannot stop talking about how great it will be when the next episode releases in a weeks time. The very least they could do in my opinion is support the creators a little... They can afford to splash out on videogame DLCs, airsoft replica rifles to put on the wall (because guns, amiright?!), but are not willing to put any money into their favorite hobby.

Then again I'm one of those old-fashioned people that buys CDs, so what the hell do I know? X3 I don't even use iTunes! Bwahah, silly me.

In terms of Code Geass, I'm (very very very very) patiently waiting for it to come out on Bluray.

I'd happily pay for that again.

I'm generally not a huge fan of consuming media more than once, except for music and some "repetitive" games. These games usually are played in matches and don't have a lot of story (e.g. shooters, FIFA, ...). The only other case where I think I'd pay for media I've already (partially) consumed is if I tried out a fun game to see if it will run smoothly on my computer.

I'll also watch movies and TV shows I've already seen when they are on television, but I wouldn't buy them.

I do this quite a bit. I watch a series on TV and then I buy the DVD either because I want to make sure I got the order right and don't miss any episodes or because I hate the breaks and just want to see it without seeing advertisement for shampoo.

With games I often buy classics because they're compatible with new systems and I don't need my old system to play it. Most recently Wario Land 2.

If I watched a movie once it was airing in the theatre I often want to buy that to make sure I remember the details (if it's a good one that is).

However when it comes to music there's not even a question. If I hear a song I like once on the radio then I have used the product, but music is something I can listen to over and over. If I like the song I will buy the song, if I like the album I will buy the album and if I like all of what the band has made I will buy all their albums and go see the live if the chance comes up. Hopefully Thousand Foot Krutch comes here so I can cross them off the list of bands I HAVE to see live...

Ill have to agree about the digital part. If your buying a piece of media who's primary purpose for you is not consuming it then the psychical aspect plays a larger role then it would have before. Besides its nice to own something tangible, all my time can't be invested in virtual Pokemon/Monster Hunter Gear/Mario Stars/Collection of Skull in Skyrim/ etc.

Apparently the captcha does not Agree:

I have and I will continue to do so. I'll usually pirate a game and see if I like it, if I do I go out and buy it to support the dev or buy a movie after I've theater hopped and seen it. I wouldn't say I feel guilt about not paying for it because I really don't, but I like supporting cool things and the best way to do that is with money.

I will watch most shows and read manga online but if I liked them I will always buy them unless someone close me already has. I actually have a fairly decent movie and tvshow collection going on and I always buy my games. The only manga I read anymore is One Piece and Berserk and my sister collects One Piece and I collect Berserk. I always just straight up buy my English comics or borrow it.

The only thing I download and don't pay for is music but even most of that I have gotten from people who already own it and will buy for myself when I am not so poor.

I put if I liked them enough. If I hated something I wouldn't want to support it. But I like most things I buy, so most everything I have would have been payed for in some way under this system.

Heck, I think I've bought Freelancer about six times?
