My pockets are always full of stuff (including whatever jacket I'm wearing). I wouldn't go for a "Purse" per se, but more a shoulder bag as I hate carrying something around in my hands.

no, everything i need to take with me fit in my pocket so having a purse would be unnecessary

So I'm sitting here looking at my sister's purse setting on the table, and thinking "damn I wish I could carry one of those without getting really funny looks". The amount of crap she's got crammed in there, where as I am limited to what my wallet and pockets can carry, which isn't a lot if I don't want my pants to look like their bulging at inappropriate moments.

So do you ever wish it was socially acceptable for men to carry a purse around?
Two words: Tactical Pants.

Messenger Bag, my friend.
It's essentially a purse, but more manly.

Not by much, and you might look out of place if you're not wearing it while riding a bike or free running or some other... thing like that.
Still...
+1 I wear my messenger bag even when theres nothing in it.

Generally I just use pockets since the only things I travel with are my ipod and phone, sometimes my wallet. If I want to carry something bigger than those things such as say, a book, I'll use my messenger bag

Good god, no. I've seen the interior of my ex's purse. It was a cluttered mess of crap. Mostly useless crap, too.
I'm happy to stick with my cargo shorts/pants, thank you very much.
And if I really need to carry around more stuff than my waist can support, I have a bookbag on hand 90% of the time.
"Useless Crap"?!
I neeeed the duct tape, telescope, pad of paper, four pens (two of which don't work), MP3 Player with two sets of headphones, gum wrappers, Gameboy, roll of Sacajawea dollars, package of pastels, Frisk, small figurine of a Heatran, knife, kneaded eraser, makeup, address book, and cell phone.
Oh, and its a nice place to tote around tampons, too.

What's WRONG with you? Sheesh.

I find that it is socially acceptable and actually really handy to just take my school bag places I need to carry stuff.
So much more helpful than a purse, you could fit CLOTHES in there.

Here's what I carry with me:

Always - keys
Most times - phone
Sometimes - iPod, a bit of cash or my card
Rarely - Other stuff, maybe a USB key or something.

When I need more stuff (for school, or when I'm bringing my computer with me), I just bring a bag. No way that stuff would fit into a purse.
Purses, to me, are that really unnecessary middle ground of mobile storage-space.

I carry a Gunslinger girl messenger bag when out on the town during the day. Makes enough room for snacks to bring into the cinema, plus a good book and my PSP.
Some people call it a handbag but I don't care. I'd prefer to put something in a secured bag than put into a jean or coat pocket really where it could fall out/get swiped

I voted "Candy" on account of being female.

I personally don't carry a purse unless it's the rare occasion I'm wearing trousers with no pockets.

There are other bag-alternatives that I can use that won't get me funny looks.

Well; no.

I wouldn't want to physically have to use my hands or shoulder to carry a purse when I have perfectly good jacket pockets.

One for my migraine meds, shades, earplugs, flashdrive, etc.
One for my wallet (and passport if travelling).
One for "mounting" my collapsible travel umbrella so I ain't gotta actually hold it up.
Two side pockets for my gloves, and usually where I keep my iPod as well.

It works out pretty well for me. I get to look like the massive nerd that I am, while keeping my hands free for meet 'n' greet, hiding in my pockets & other activities.

I haven't found anywhere to stash my headphones yet, aside from around my neck.
Please inform me if you or anyone else happens to come upon a method of doing so.

if i need to carry more stuff than my pockets allow for, that's when the backpack comes into play
