Another metalhead hating popular stuff? Whats new?

Quote time.

Mainstream music makes everything bad not because it rots away the 'musicianship' but because the mainstream has terrible taste in music. 'They' prefer rather simple songs that are a little catchy, that their relatively untrained ears can discern and digest. (Find me a music teacher that likes rap or hip hop, I dare you.)
Pop (I use that loosely) music has been simple since the 50s. As music as I looove complex songs some of the best songs ever are simple and always catchy. This makes people happy, lets them sing along and dance. How does the mainstream 'drain away musicianship'? It doesnt make you play worse and before you say "The evil labels tell them to play simple stuff" being in a pop band means you have to play flawlessly tight. I've seen some fantastic musicians in the bands behind Pink, Rihanna and Beyonce. My head lecture at uni likes Rap and Hip Hop, when you surround yourself with music then you start to appreciate everything (I can listen to almost anything, still trying to find something I like in Dragonforce and bands that over use their distortion pedals.)

2: Are excessive amounts of concentrated fail
I just could not take your post seriously after that.

theres nothing wrong with the mainstream.. Only people who think they are too cool for it. So if you don't like it cool.. just don't bother listening to it.. Simple

actually dragaonforce has a lot to share with metal and is probly the best example of a new metal band. metal is a style where you take one thing and take it over the top, big solos and loud distortion and lyrics.

as for the american metal today, it's crap and not metal, europe is where it's at for metal and evolution of metal. the american stuff has just been over produced and watered down for the most part so it can appeal to a lot of kids but really it sux and misses the actual point of metal

funnily enough i'm actually watching a documentary on heavy metal at the moment

I hate metal, so there you go.

But I do think that the media will erode the basic principals of most music genres in the end, such is the affliction of mass marketing.

Anything too long in the mainstream gets diluted somewhat, I find.

Stick to the roots, Maiden, Priest, Manowar, Dio, etc. and you'll be fine ;)

Most people I know believe all metal is stuff like my chemical romance or fallout boy(?) or screamo slayer type stuff. I really cant blame them though as the media makes them beleive that.

Wow, My Chemical Romance and Fallout boy? Metal? HAHA!

Not saying that their music is bad, they just don't fall into that category. At all. Not even close.

Slayer on the other hand, is pretty metal. Technically speaking they are a thrash band.

Allow me to disagree. America has many, many great metal bands and contributes much to the evolution of the genre. Here are just a few of my favorites:
-HORSE the Band (Metalcore)
-Manowar (Heavy 80s Metal)
-Isis (Post-Metal)
-Dream Theater (Progressive)
-Mastodon (Metaaaaaal)
-Symphony X (Neoclassical)
-Iced Earth (Power Metal)
-Kamelot (Power Metal)

And that's just from a cursory glance at my iTunes.

no from many a metal head, much like a lot of music, europe is the place. america is about the quick buck and all about how much money you can make

-Isis (Post-Metal)
-Mastodon (Metaaaaaal)
-Kamelot (Power Metal)
these bands prove my point about american metal and how much it sux, they aren't very good nor are anywhere near edgy, they are a rather generic sound

-Manowar (Heavy 80s Metal)
-Dream Theater (Progressive)
-Symphony X (Neoclassical)
-Iced Earth (Power Metal)
these guys aren't from today's metal they are 20+ years old, they are old school

You loose. You lost when you said you enjoy CoB and DragonForce.
Better trolls than you have tried, sir.
No seriously, you did loose. I couldn't take your post seriously after you mentioned that. And if you have to defend a band so many times you have to utter "I've done it far too many times" then there is an obvious, and serious, problem with the band that you either try your best to ignore, or have to accept in order to like. Now there is no problem with the latter, but if your in the former category then you need to realize the facts and accept them.

Back in the days when I listed to Michael Jackson when he was still black, I remember having my Vice City radio constantly tuned to VRock.
This is a time paradox.
You can still buy the albums. Jeez, Thriller is still selling as is Off the Wall.

That's just the type of snobby elitism I'd expect from a topic like this.

But go ahead-- tell me the "facts" that make Dragonforce and Children of Bodom "bad". Indulge me.

If you are, friend, then so am I. Word to the wise: you need to scope out non-English metal. Finland and Japan have amazing, unpolluted metal scenes. I've even heard stuff from frickin' Egypt that was awesome. Look to places where metal is still underground and hated. Like it used to be in the West. Therein lies your salvation, young Patowan.
America still has good metal bands. I mean, just look at Otep. Her House of Secrets Album was pure unadulterated fury. The Ascension, while a bit more mainstream then the rest of her music, still has her core fury. It still is still her music, and her message. Plus, she still has the hardcore songs, like March of The Martyrs on her cd the ascension.

What land of musical dumbness have you stepped out of? I... I just don't know where to begin. So many sparks to turn into wild flaming blazes that are equal to a sweeping Californian wild fire. I must resist... I don't want to be banned.

Anywho, in general when someone goes mainstream, they change their sound to have it appeal to more people. Hell M.I.A., I know she's pop but I'm making a point, recognized this. She made serious songs sound like the nothing mindless babble that pollutes the airwaves. Thus she gets her message based music to the people, but it's still popular. Same with Otep, she made her music sound more mainstream, but still stuck to the core of her music. While most seem to loose this property, of sticking to what made their music great, there are the few that hold onto it. Of course, in my opinion it's the message of music that make a band, not the sound. So if you strictly base your liking of a metal band on how hard they sound, then don't listen to the mainstream.

I don't have to. You should already be well aware of it's faults.
Like I said before, people like you claim that music that has grown in popularity "sucks", but you can never back up those statements with anything.
