i have the Wii Prime Trilogy and it's amazing. the controls work really well and they are great fun to play. only problem i find is that where all 3 games are one 1 disk, loading times can be a bit long. the loading times aren't huge but it can sometimes break the flow having to stand there for 4 or 5 seconds before the door open.

even so, they are great games and i would highly recommend them to anyone

For a while, I've been interested in the Metroid Prime games. Heck, I've been interested since I saw a 15-part speedrun of the first game on Youtube and remembered thinking 'This is like next-gen graphics, on the freaking Gamecube!' These days, I have a point of reference (it's called Gears of War) so I can safely say: I still prefer MP's graphics. Regardless of the fidelity, actual colour in games will always interest me more than gray, brown and muzzle flash. Only exception: Fallout 3, and even then the 'graphics' are far from perfect.

I've also heard a lot of very mixed reviews about the Wii's second Metroid outing, Team Ninja's Metroid Other M. And if you say it right, it sounds a little like the way you'd say 'John Romero's Daikatana'--Wait, wait, I'm not done! That was a joke! Hell, I can't claim to know enough to place Other M on the same level as Daikatana, and same goes for the Prime games. That's why I want you to tell me:

Since I own a Wii and I'm interested in its Metroid games, which one(s) should I get? The whole thing (for whatever reason), just one or the other, go for the even more retro option or just leave the franchise alone. Oh, and, the Super Metroid option is going to need lots of support to make me pay 15 dollars (Australian) for a game from 1994. And another 35 or so for the Classic Controller, just so I can play it without treading into a legal gray area. Shit, we all knew games were overpriced in Australia, but 50 dollars for one SNES game, even a top-of-the-line one?!

Voting booth's open. Captcha: 'also ereekers'. Heh, if I could be bothered, I could try adding that to the Inglip mythos...

Late edit: I'm probably not going to be deciding for a while, seeing as I got Bioshock last Saturday and I've got two Nintendo DS games in the mail. And I've heard that both TWEWY and Knights are pretty long. And I'm not exactly the biggest shooter fan anyway: a few Valve games, Fallout 3 and Bioshock are my entire FPS repertoire, not counting the six hours of Halo: Reach I played on LAN last year. Also, I know the Wii is region-locked, I live in Australia and I'm not certain if any of my local retailers have the Prime Trilogy or any Wii point cards. Such is life for the Aussie gamer. Just ask Yahtzee.
Get Metroid Prime Trilogy if you can, I've got it and I love it. Never played other M but it looked kinda boring to me anyways.

Bit of advice though, if you do pick up metroid prime trilogy, you might find some controller frustration so I would suggest going to the calibration menu and picking the 'advanced' control scheme (it works a lot better). you may have already thought to do this, but a lot of people don't when it comes to wii controls (probably why a lot of em hate the controls so much).

As for MPT, it's a fantastic set, the first one's still the best (has one of my favorite boss fights ever) but the other two are good as well (Ign's Matt Cassamassina described 2 as the majora's mask of the prime series) 3's a little dull at times but it's still damn good and the pointer controls work incredibly well with all three. even if you cant get the box set, find a way to play them all, you wont regret it.

I think I've never been as disappointed in a game than Other M. As people have already touched upon the plot is retarded. I also don't understand how people can honestly say that the game has good graphics. The art-direction and enemy designs are awful! The ambient music (which is one of the highlights of metroid) is also surprisingly absent. There's like 3 looping tunes throughout the entire game.

I even beat the game 100%, with one of the most bitter aftertastes as a nintendo fan.

DO NOT PLAY OTHER M!
