It was good, but not as good. Nothing as memorable as Phendrana in it, but still a solid 8 or so, to the 9.5 and 9.0 of Prime 1 and 2, respectively, for me.

but nintendo and metroid have been soured for me...unfortunatly
Wait, you would blame Retro Studios for the Team Ninja catastrophe? You don't blame Marvel for the way Fox handled the X-Men, do you?

I agree on all fronts, but I HATED the light world, dark world mechanic from Echos. It destroyed the core aspect of what Metroid SHOULD be, a game where exploration is a focus. Corruption was weak in a lot of regards, mainly in it being overly linear but, it's still better than no exploration.
Could you explain how the light world/dark world mechanic killed the exploration? If anything I felt like you had more exploration to be had because of it. Roughly twice as much actually.

I seem to be one of the few people who really liked the LW/DW gimmick. It definitely was a gimmick, but it was so deeply worked into the rest of the game that I didn't mind it. I dreaded the dark world sections, but I actually think that was a good thing. The dark world was more dangerous and I was constantly worried I'd get stuck in it without a light crystal. Which I think was exactly what they were going for with it. I do agree with a lot of the other response though, it would have benefited from a different shade of purple.
Well that's pretty much it, I had to watch out for light crystals in the dark world for a LONG time. And that limited the exploration that could be done in the dark world vastly. In almost no time I could explore most of the world in Prime, and Corruption I could explore the fairly large hub worlds, but it is dumb to have a mechanic that prevents you from exploring in a Metroid game. If the dark world didn't do damage, I'd like it a lot better.

I would say the controls made the Wii worth the purchase... who am I kidding it wasn't worth the extra 300 bucks.

Echos is my favorite, followed close behind by prime. I've actually only played corruption all the way through once I think. Halfway maybe 3 times then just lose interest. I actually forget much of the plot outside of the first like 30 min.

The first 2 were epic, I played both of them easily 7 times each and loved them. I like 2 more as the environments were more inspired and imaginative, and the bosses were superb. It was just very clearly a huge step above and beyond prime's already excellent game.

Corruption felt rushed, unnecessary, fragmented, and in all ways a large step backward. I consider it to be the Silent Hill 4 of the Metroid series. I did like the floating city planet though.

By that logic I would say that Other M is the Shattered Memories of the Metroid series...

I wish Nintendo still made hardware and software I wanted to buy. Even when I do get a Metroid or Zelda game from now on its gonna most likely have motion controls I don't like or 3D I don't like.

Along with Castlevania and Kirby I miss 2D sprite based Metroid/Zelda games. Or even they were like Okami or Muramasa. That kind of quality would be nice v_v
