Metrosexual can apply to everyone. Gay men, chicks, even the little brother from Ugly Betty.
Its just that this gets stereotyped on gay guys.
no it's not, metrosexuals are straight guys, they just ACT in a way that is mostly attributed to gay men, ie they are slaves to fashion and use all these moisturizers and hair products and get manicures and such.

if you ever want a great example of it, watch/read American Psycho, Patrick Bateman is a metrosexual before they came about, his getting ready in the morning routine is total metrosexual

The original use of the term refers to someone who takes good care of their body and shows great concern for their appearence. That they love themselves first and foremost, and do their best to make sure they look good. Most women are, in the angle of wanting to look good, metrosexual to begin with.

As far as sexuality goes, most men are more on the tough, rugged, fuck how i look side of things, where as women are more on the delicate, clean, i need to look perfect side of things. The essence of homosexuality, as far as i can see, is acting like the opposite gender, thus a man who's like a woman in terms of concern for appearence could be presumed ot be gay. This is why metrosexuals are usually thought of as poofters.

Also, to Aries: anyone who gets offended at stereotypes is usually the kind of person to whom the stereotypes apply, to begin with. People who say 'labels are stupid' are the people who've been labeled and don't like it.
Or people who belong to a certain group, (i.e homosexuals) that are constantly expected to be weak and fairy like. And while this does add a sense of pride to the fights you win at the bar, it gets annoying, and it propagates from people who see stereotyping as a good thing.

And what's wrong with not liking labels? If you expect me to roll over and let you piss on my lawn then you have another thing coming.

It depends on what activity I'm going to be partaking in. Cutting wood on my property all day and getting all sweaty while swinging a splitting maul? At that time I don't give a shit what I look like. Taking my wife out to dinner on our anniversary? Yup then I at least try to look halfway as good as she does.

Wait a second, I thought metrosexuals had died out like the dodo.
But anyway my thoughts on metro's are; men who you hear talking on the street, bus, train about there six hundred euro jeans that you have to wear for a week before washing them.

Being metrosexual is to the 2000s what going to the gym and developing over-sized muscles was in the 1980s...a way to get chicks no notice you.

The only constant through-out the years to get chicks is to be hung like a moose.

It's a stupid term IMO, just another hypish buzz word.
I'm a huge peacock, I spend ages sorting out my hair, picking the right clothes ect...
I'm also fairly camp, I used to be a dancer but had to quit due to lack of time.
I get endless amounts of stick from this by my more insecure male acquaintances, mostly because they are intimidated by the fact that I can do what I want and act as camp as I want, yet still get a fairly high proportion of girls, and know that I am straight, while they all seem to need to real on group consensus to decide their sexuality.
I guess this probably does make me a metro, but why should I care what people label me as, as long as I can continue with the lifestyle I enjoy, I enjoy looking nice, I enjoy having nice clothes, I enjoy being confident and upsetting people who aren't confident enough to live their lives like this, and I enjoy all the pussy it gets me.

and if I really need to back it up, I do Karate for England, that tends to shut most people up.

A metrosexual is something who strives to be gay in every sense other than sex, meaning they dress gay, they act gay, they talk gay, they want to be gay, but they dont want to have intercourse with the same sex.

Pretty much someone who's an indecisive dumbass.

EDIT: What do you call a gay man that takes part in "Metrosexual activities"?

Sorry, said the opposite thing there.

I'm sick of stupid terms like this.

Logically, shouldn't "Metrosexual" refer to anyone who engages in sexual activity in a metropolitan area?

Ugh, this is stupid. Metrosexual was a word decided by an idiot person in some fasion magazine. It should not be used. Ever.

Everybody cares a little about how they look, even complete slobs. The guys and gals who do nothing about their appearance still look in the mirror every other morning and try to convince themselves they're attractive in some way.

That would be a homosexual man who acts like a stereotypical homosexual man.

Then what do you call a gay man that doesn't act like a stereotypical gay man?

EDIT: What I'm trying to say here is that gay men don't necesarily act like Metrosexual men in the same way that not all Lesbians act butch or all Hetrosexual men act tough. If you can have a Metrosexual man (straight man acting gay to be blunt) then you can have a gay man acting straight, to be blunt again. There is no such thing as black and white when it comes sexuality.

i'm heterosexual and although i do care about my appearance, i have a 'that'll do' attitude. once i've given my hair a quick brush that's pretty much it. i have little. if any, fashion sense but i do make more of an effort on special occasions, e.g birthdays, parties etc.

This is the reason why I added stereotypical to the last part of the sentence, because not all gay men act like the stereotype.

In an even shorter form: I agree.

I chose no. To me a "metrosexual" is a cop out term for a gay guy who doesn't want to admit his gay. People will disagree with that, but the only two friends I've had who have ever claimed to be metrosexual later came out as being gay (well, one was bi, but still close enough).
