So I've been playing minecraft for a while now (ok, quite a while now) and I've not once seen a slime in game. Ever. I do spend a lot of time caving on Peaceful but that shouldn't matter because they can spawn on Peaceful.

Either way, I've got the impression over the months that Slimes are as rare as water in the Nether for a lot of people.

So, quick straw poll, without the use of cheating (that slime spawning chunk finder thing not counted as cheating) have you seen a slime in game on minecraft?

Added dicussion value: Do you think Slimes should be made more common?

(P.S. I did do a check to see if this topic has come up before, sorry if it has come up recently).

Not since the last update. But before that, when they were somehow invincible, I watched my housemate get absolutely smothered by about 60 slimes of various sizes. It was horrible.

Seen them in yogscast videos among others, though, I've never seen them in game. And from what I have seen in videos they seem rather annoying.

I actually saw my first one yesterday, jumped out on me when i dug into a large cavern. Even though i was on peaceful, it scared the shit out of me as i had no idea what it was at first.

Just took a few down last night... if you want my advice, open up a huge cavern at bedrock level, and check it periodically.

Ther can be water in the nether? Woah. I practically never go down there so I had no idea.

Also, no slimes ever. And I've seen ten spiders grouphunting...

Yes, but very rarely - maybe three times all in all - and it was creepy the first time since I didn't know what I was hearing at first, having almost forgotten that they existed.

I spend a lot of time around Y 12 or so, and make large tunnels, so I see(or saw, rather, haven't played mucn in the last month or two) tons of them.

On my mc server, we made a world where the ground level was only like 10 blocks above bedrock. One day I came on and there were litteraly hundreds of slimes. Can anyone tell me how this could of happened because I have no clue?

[EDIT] I havent seen ANY in sp ever, although I don't play sp that much

I managed to find a cave where a slime spawned, so I searched around and now I have a large 'spawn tower' at the chunk I narrowed down that I check every now and then. I haven't come across that many, but I have more than a few slime-balls and sticky pistons.

The first slime I ever found scared the hell out of me. I had just finished reading the Herobrine creepypasta, so was feeling slightly more edgy than usual. Suddenly, from an adjacent cave, I heard a strange noise. Although I late found that this wet "splat" noise was in fact the movement sound of slimes, from a distance, it sounded like a pickaxe striking rock. After a few minutes of panicking in front of my paused game, I finally braced myself and tunnelled into the adjacent cavern. When I realised what was causing the noise, I punched the damn thing to death for scaring me.

Ok, I was exagerating, you can't get water in the nether.

Wow, ten spiders... *shudders*

Nothing creeper than hearing that weird footfall for the first time, deep underground, and all alone... *shiver*

Slimes aren't actually that rare, the way they're set up is unusual though. They only spawn in certain chunks (about 1 in 20) and beneath a certain level (y=16, IIRC). The chances of natural caves of these areas overlapping isn't as common as you'd expect. Of course, the flip side is if you do find slimes, you're almost guaranteed to find more slimes in the same place whenever you head back there.

Never in Single Player, but around a dozen in Multiplayer. We even got 6 Baby Slimes up to the surface and put them in a zoo. Was so worth the hour.

Sadly no I haven't, probably because I've yet to see a cave that goes that low and I'm too lazy to dig one out.
