It isn't a horror game, yet it freaks out many gamers.. Sounds like a fun and successful game to me.

It can get a little freaky down in those dark passages, when a zombie or a creeper might just happen to be down there. Also when you come out to a stormy night, when lightning and creepers are out and about, yeah it can be a bit unnerving. Not really full-on scary but could make you sweat a little.

I only find two things scary about it, and these alone were enough to make me vote yes.

1. The only other people in the WORLD are the npcs. The creepy thing about it is that you can't talk to them, you can't interact with them - the don't even ACKNOWLEDGE you. You're just alienated, almost like they're just something your mind made up in a feeble attempt to get rid of the loneliness. <_< wow that was long.

2. AMBIANCE. I'm just walking in a totally peaceful field looking for sheep, and I hear a high-pitched screech. It makes me shiver whenever I hear it.

why did you necro this? this thread is over a year old...

OP:It has horror elements, and in some cases, it can cause anxiety. I wouldn't say it's scary though, at least not completely.

Minecraft keeps you on edge because a jump scare followed shortly by a game over screen could come from literally anywhere - a creeper on the overhanging ledge you don't see, what you thought was a small ditch actually being a bottomless pit, an enderman you accidentally mouse over as you scan a dark passageway, etc. In horror games, on the other hand, you generally have a pretty good idea where the level designers are going to stick the jump scares.

Look, year old thread, on it's fourth necro. Hello.

Requoting my post from a year ago, almost exactly.

It's the music that does it for me. Walking in a cave then it's brilliant soundtrack comes up. I found it made me sad because of how lonely I feel. God, the timing sometimes is awesome.

Next time you're on YouTube, instead of looking up Blops frag videos or of a person dressing up a cat, look up Minecraft's music.

Here, one out of the thirteen songs.

I think it's because of the Enderman running to your face when he's about to attack.

It's a thread from two years ago. And it has been necroed in the past. Leave the poor thing alone.

Caves are just unsettling when you're really deep in them without music and you haven't seen a creeper or enderman in awhile...

This thread's almost two years old by now. I think Minecraft had just entered Beta stage and was gaining popularity by the time it was posted.

Yeah.

Oh, hey, look, there's my post from two years ago if you scroll up a bit.
