Something tells me that a MMORPG on a console will fall as soon as it comes out. It's mainly to do with controls. Anyone who has played world of warcraft will know, that to game effectively, you would need to use the hotkeys a lot. The console button layout just isn't suited to interacting in a fully multiplayer enviroment (unless they make GTA world).

Phantasy Star! :D worked.
I never played that, how many players could be online at once though? I assume the servers were external dedicated?
the most you would see people is if everyone was in a certian room where you got your missions then you would run around with MAX 4-5 people ( i forgot how many) the whole mmo part was BS...it was queuing for a mission and getting grouped with people..thats it really
So not entirely an MMORPG...
EXACTLY!...the most mmo is you go into a lobby and other people are running around spamming....its was ok.

There's going to be DUST 514, an MMOFPS for the 360.
Dunno how it will go. Personally I think it'd be better on PC.
Never heard of this, just been looking at it on the net, it looks sick.

Any clue about a release date? or Beta?
Nope. CCP isn't giving any hints on release date or anything. I think it's a good decision on their part, people aren't going to get hyped and then let down when it's delayed, like with some releases.

It probably won't be out for a while, since it's going to have continuity and integrate with EVE Online and that can't be easy to work out, especially with Microsoft's rules and restrictions on XBox Live.
Assuming it does get done, it will be amazing.
Personally, I believe the release will coincide with the release of "Incarna," the EVE Online expansion that will enable EVE players to get out of their pod and walk around stations.
Why do I think this? Well EVE pilots are going to be forming alliances with and hiring the mercenaries of DUST to take planets for them, so they have to interact somehow.

Anyone considering Blizzard's new IP being an mmo for consoles?
Why would Blizzard release another MMO? They've got WoW, Diablo 3 and Ghost if they ever decide to revive that.

I'm fairly certain Blizzard stated their next IP would be an MMO and would not be in direct competition with WoW.

It's a fair assumption to believe they're making a console game, WoW being PC restricted.

Otherwise there is no way it would not compete against WoW.

Unless they made a shared subscription thing, where you can switch extremely easily between one and the other and you wouldn't be losing your player base, just juggling it around.

The problem is not enough harddrive space.

MMOs are BIG and the more succesful ones like WOW, keep adding new content and tweak existing stuff.

A PS3 MMO can only use less than 20 GB (the most basic PS3 SKU) and a xbox360 MMO would have to work with the 4GB flash.

A console MMO would need years of beta testing before the actual release, or suck.
It's perfectly reasonable to expect someone to upgrade their hard drive, hell that's what they did with FFXI for PS2, so the 20GB limitation isn't there.

4GB wouldn't work either - what about the people still playing with 256MB MUs? 360 games can require a hard drive, if you don't have one you don't play those certain games.
FFXI, a MMORPG just hanging on there in the margin, despite being on PS2 and 360 aswell as PC.
Requiring PS2 owners to buy a seperate HD for it and splitting up the 360 market probably didn't help to make it more popular.

Back in the day, the PS2 harddrive was like $100 and (almost)no game required it, so not a good deal then.
Now I don't think many 360 arcade, S and core owners will be too keen to buy a HD just to play some MMOG, else they would've bought a Pro or Elite instead.

The PS3 is the only console where going MMO is somewhat feasible without splitting up your potential audience. Even then expect some outcry when 1 game take up 20 GBs of those puny little harddrives.
With a PS3, upgrading the hard drive is easy. $45 gets you a 320GB hard drive these days, there's really no complaining about having to upgrade.

In the case of the 360, there are so many reasons to get a hard drive - installs to reduce risk of scratching discs (and be able to play scratched discs!), not running out of save space (less of a concern with the 4GB model), running quieter and less risk of overheating, installing countless very appealing XBLA games, games on demand and even the ability to play Halo: Reach co-op. Most people will get a hard drive of some sort eventually on the 360. I'm sitting at my 20GB that I paid $20 for, and it's good enough for me, but there aren't going to be that many people complaining about the need for a hard drive to play an MMORPG, particularly if they'll be paying a $10-$15 monthly subscription fee on top of Xbox Live Gold.
I don't disagree with common sense to get a 360 with a harddrive, but not everyone is as smart as we are.

M$ know this and they make 360 SKUs with 4 GB and used to make arcades and cores aswell.

People are stupid and you can nickel and dime them to death sooner than get them to buy something worthwhile for a decent sum. Hell, 15 per month equals a new mainstream-performance CPU and GPU every 2 years, but people complain about PC gaming being expensive.

A company may want to keep their MMOG accessible to all the idiots with their inferior SKUs, especially. A big part of WOWs success is that it will run on hopelessly outdated PCs afteral.

Well, DCUO is being released for the PS3 and that's a MMO. Looks pretty damn good if I do say so myself.

I think Phantasy Star online was already pioneered the console MMORPG,it was on Dreamcast,Xbox, and Gamecube. It did quite well in fact.

*And there are also Phantasy Star Universe on current gen consoles.

So we probably don't have to worry about this at all. We'll definitely get more console MMORPG.

I have ben thinking this for a while but came to the conclusion it would not work. Imagine all of the little shits on XBL playing a MMORPG.

Huh maybe it's Ghost at last...
It's new Intellectual Property. That means no Diablo, Warcraft or Starcraft.
