This is when I get the feeling gaming gets dumbed down.
When you get people being excited over a game including what are relatively basic MP modes?
And you call yourself a gamer?
you sir, are a disgrace.
as long as its entertaining it doesn't matter
what, you cant what for the dynamic character relationship in the storyline?
exited for the dynamics of the mix of combat sound and music whilst you ever so diligently follow the story line like a real soldier?
i really dont get you're type.
Call me crazy, but what you just said there sounds like you've been swept up in the hype. While Call of Duty may be good at getting across the atmosphere of combat, it can't exactly be said to have 'dynamic character relationship' just because your squad shares a few scripted comments every time you pass a certain point or kill an enemy before they do.
Yes, Call of Duty 4 manages to make you care for some of the characters in the game (unfortunately all two of them get offed) but that isn't a dynamic process, just two characters that they actually gave character. Note how theres nothing like Gaz in with the US soldiers who get themselves nuked? Just a squad full of redshirts.
The 'dynamic mix of combat sound and music' is little more than a good soundtrack selection, from what I've played of Call of Duty 1, 2, 4 and WaW there wasn't any amazing mix to how the music went with the combat, just the usual music pumping off everything on the screen at the right scripted points no matter what else happened.
Finally, the storyline isn't going to be ignored unless you just stand in one spot all game, which is the way the Call of Duty games have been ever since the first. It is impossible to play the game without following the storyline, as it is with many others such as Half-Life 2, Crysis, Max Payne and even Halo. What in Call of Duty makes the storyline 'followed like a real soldier'? The fade-outs between levels just because you've reached a certain part? Or is it the sudden sweeps over the globe while you jump from place to place in a series of video clips?
If you want a game which you follow 'like a real soldier', try Operation Flashpoint or Armed Assault 1 and 2. Call of Duty is simply a gaming experiance designed to give it's fun within a campaign, or at least it was until Call of Duty 4, where the campaign has begun to be sacrificed for a multi-player which gives no feeling of atmosphere or anything the campaign even tries to keep.
Is it entertaining? The SP is, yet it is the MP which leaves me feeling underwealmed and wishing they had simply stuck another act onto the SP instead. The MP on Call of Duty games always felt like an addition, something they did alongside the SP, yet in 4 and WaW it seemed like the SP had suffered for an MP which didn't even play any better, actually it felt worse.
And now people are getting excited because the sequel added a mode which is ancient in terms of FPSs, which MW2 may have had additions to it's MP, these won't be the amazing changes needed to completely turn around the gameplay and make it as replayable as Team Fortress 2, Garry's Mod or Freelancer were.
