Simple poll just so I/you/we/they can see what are general impressions on Modern Warfare 2. There are many opinions but I did not see any polls.

Eugh, There have been a whole lot of MW2 threads lately. I'm sure that if you searched you'd find several more asking exactly the same thing...

Welcome to the escapist and all that. I don't mean to come across as a dick, it's just been done way too much lately, I (and presumably others) are sick of it dominating all conversation.

OT: I've not played it, but it looks pretty average and I'm hearing overwhelmingly bad things about the multiplayer, not to mention the short campagn so for now I'm resigned to thinking it's a subpar game.

Welcome to The Escapist from me, too.

I've chosen 'other' since I don't really have much of an opinion on it (I haven't played it), as I'm one of the 17 people actually boycotting it; only IW. And right now, my opinion of IW isn't good. I'm a PC gamer, and CoD4 was pretty stellar, but they butchered the PC version. This does go beyond the usual "we want dedicated servers BAWWWWW" argument, however, since lag and cheaters are a big concern to me, since my internet is already bad as it is.

Seriously, if anyone besides me uses our Internet (family of 6, and my younger brother and sister use the Internet a lot...) even for browsing while I try and play a game, my ping can go over 2000. I wish I was kidding. P2P would only make that worse. Not to mention there's no real way to get rid of cheaters that join your game.

IW seems to think that IW.Net stops cheaters and pirates... I thought they new better thanks to CoD4, but apparently they're some of 'those' people that think hackers and pirates can be any more than delayed and inconvenienced.

I'll still get it though, but only if;
a) They release a patch to fix the PC version.
b) The price drops significantly. I am not paying full price for the damn thing as it is now.

Whichever comes first.

Haven't got it yet, but I've heard great stuff about it despite the whole PC-server fanboy rage. Apparently the campaign's quite good and the demo I've seen just confirms this (saw people playing a demo in HMV last week). If the multiplayer's anything like the first MW then I can't see anything wrong with it

Thank you for the welcome. I do realise that there are many Modern Warfare 2 topics but none that I have seen have a pool. This makes it easier to see what is general opinion of The Escapist community and not just seeing who is the loudest fanboy/girl.

In short.

The singleplayer felt awkard. Hit detection sucked. The campaign was very linear compared to the first. The story was all over the place as everybody knows. The AI also seemed a fair bit more stupid. There were many occasions where the 2 opposing forces would just ignore and run past each other, to get into cover which felt weird. The system requirements seemed higher, which caused it to look worse than MW1 on my pc.

Its only 5 hours long. Now I am all for quality over quantity, but it wasn't long ago when we got awesome games, that werent all RPG's or sandboxes, that lasted well over 20 hours. If so much time has to be spend making the game look nice then we are spending to little time developing the actual game.

There were good points though. The setpieces were cleverly thought of and the stealth elements were as good as ever. The new gadgets were cool and fun to use, the heartbeat detector in particular.

I haven't played the multiplayer. It doesn't appeal to me. One of the things I hated about MW1's multiplayer was the killstreaks. Being killed by them felt so random and was a real flowbreaker. That compared with the small maps made for some situations were you felt like the 'choppa' was only out for you. With an increased focus on killstreaks I can't be bothered. They simply ruin the run n gun flow I loved about the original. The lack of dedicated servers is annoying too but its not a gamebreaker for me.

Ehm... In ultra short:

3/10, lets call that a 'meh'

EDit: Ah! I have to say I did love the new dark tone they have to the game. The first one had some situations of muddled morals but this one takes it to the next level. The infamous airport scene was marvellous.

It's good I guess. It's fun and enjoyable although the tiny SP is a swift kick in the balls. As is no ded servers, otherwise MP is a total blast.

I got it yesterday... i also finished it yesterday (5/6 hours). its really good, but super SUPER short, possibly even shorter than CoD4. im yet to give the multiplayer a real try but that looks pretty good too.

EDIT: 6 hours, 50 minutes. just found the stats screen.

So far it's been enjoyable, but I honestly miss leaning, I knowing it sound minor, but I'm a very cautious player and this game often seems just way too twitchy at times.
