Why is this a surprise? The company did the virtually the exact same thing for Blops.

Not really seeing how this is anymore shameless then iother gaming merchanise (phone covers, iPod skins, the Halo 3 box with the spartan helmet you couldnt even wear, the catherine box [though I will admit, you could acutally use a lot of the stuff in the Catherine box, as long as you had enough confidence and didnt mind people staring when they saw your pillow cover], hte deus ex clothing line, etc.).

If fans wnat to spend money on this stuff, tahts all fine and good. It will even get the promotion from big gaming names in the gaming circuit, where you'll see champions wearing them. And you know battlefield would do the same, if they thought they could get away with it.

...

So yearh, I dont see the problem. Honestly, they look like they could be cool shades, but I wear transition glasses already, and I still wouldnt pay the 99 dollars for Shades.

Honestly, they look like actually pretty decent sunglasses. If they're quality, I'd consider it. I personally have better ones but those look kinda cool. I wouldn't buy them for the whole Modern Warfare bullshit, but as an eye wear product, they don't look bad at all.

Dude, the last Modern Warfare didn't come with sunglasses. It came with nightglasses.

Compared to that, branded sunglasses is nothing.
It was utterly priceless when people actually thought those were going to work.

You do realize you just linked the exact same story from the Escapist you are using now, right?

OT: Is it really that hard to figure out? People will buy it. It's CoD. They could sell anything at this point.

So they're really stretching their pockets over at Infinity Ward. Read it and be ashamed.

Does anyone else think this is absolute piss? Wouldn't it make more sense to just adjust the color scheme and sharpness of the actual game? Of course not, that would be too easy right. I'm eerily reminded of the marketing campaign for "HD View Sunglasses" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mKYKyIObXyM

Someone please reason with me here? I'm struggling to get a grasp of what could possibly make them think this is a good idea. Thoughts?
Please do some research before you go bashing a company, hell read the damn article you linked. Infinity Ward isn't making these. A company named Gunnar Optiks is, and they have been producing these "gaming" glasses since 2005.
Ugh, its crap like this that makes my heart drop when I log onto the escapist. People will go OMG FUCK ACTIVISION AND COD HOW DARE THEY MAKE $100 DOLLAR SUNGLASSES!11!!...
And yet they aren't sunglasses (hell I doubt they even protect you from the sun at all) and it isn't made by activision.

Eh, people have spent more than that on just regular sunglasses.
You ain't kidding. I know folks that have dropped 300ish on oakleys. Would I buy MW3 ones.... naahh. But 100 bucks for a nice pair of sunglasses isn't really unreasonable.

These aren't sunglasses though. I had a look at Gunnar Optiks website and their bread and butter seems to be making glasses to help reduce eyestrain for people that work with computers all day. Most of the stuff of theirs I could see were in the 100 bucks range as well, so it doesn't really look like they're jacking the price just because of the MW3 branding.

A handful of webmd type websites seem to suggest eyewear to reduce computer eyestrain, so the idea isn't totally ridiculous it would seem. But ya know, mention modern warfare on the escapist forums and you can pretty much expect a sea of hatred.

$100? they have lost their minds!
No they haven't. It has MW3 on the side of it, ppl WILL buy it, and the gaming world would've taken a step backwards and sighed.

It introduces gunnar optiks to a larger market, most people don't even know what they are or there purpose and by throwing the mw3 stamp on it, it grabs people's attention. On the same line it trails people into the MLG world.

Activision gets there cut no doubt, but its also a business venture for Gunnar Optik's to get out there more.

will i buy a pair? possibly, they interest me indeed.

i know a lot of people who pay far more for sunglasses that don't look as good.
So no, I'm not on the hate bandwagon here.

They're Gunnars. $80-100 is pretty standard. I`m actually surprised they didn't up the price for the MW3 branding, so really. Nothing too surprising. I`m not interested in Gunnars, but those that are might spring for the MW3's.

Well, MW2 had its brand plastered all over Jeeps last year, so this has nothing on that.

On a side note, I actually have a neighbor who drives a MW2 jeep. Talk about dedicated.

I see it as this: The series is losing popularity with anyone with half a brain, so why bother developing a game for anyone sane? They may as well put out things like this because only true idiots will buy it.... I mean really 99$?! Come ON. Whoever buys that is either way too rich or an utter plonker.

I think no, but I notice you have THREE options for no, but only one for yes. I wouldn't say biased, because at least there are options for both, but this is definitely something...
