Poll: Modern Warfare 3: Would You Buy It If...

Does anyone remember that huge scandal around Medal of Honor? Even though it was in relation to a real, ongoing war, people will still be outraged if they are the ones being (virtually) shot. There will be a huge uproar, and whatever company that makes it will cave under pressure, and cancel development.

In my mind, even if I decide to buy it, after the mess that was Black Ops, and this (imagined) scenario, I doubt it will be released, or if it is, sell very well at all.

I would love if the game took place in somewhere like Turkey (yes, they are NATO), you know, something a bit more off the beaten path, and there are plenty of different areas in that country for different senerios, except for maybe snow/jungle. But at the same time, if they did what they did to MW2 (very, very poor balance) I am not going to buy it.

CoD series has become the new Madden. This last one was mediocre at best, and considering the fuck load money that it made (plus Homefront being a hit for no other reason than it looks like a CoD game), I'm not wasting a dime on this franchise until they start mixing things up again.

Hell, I'd rather if they went back to WW2 shooters, the whole MW setting just doesn't interest me one bit....=/

So lately there's been a lot of people around these parts justifiably complaining about rampant American-nationalistic games, most notably in mainstream FPS games. At the same time, there's also been (understandingly so) a lot of hate thrown on Call of Duty/Modern Warfare games.

However, from where Modern Warfare 2 leaves off, half of the remaining ensemble cast, John "Soap" MacTavish and John Price, are on the run from NATO countries after killing Gen. Shepard. So it seems like actual American soldiers and not mercenary soldiers as seen in the last levels of MW2 could be enemies in Modern Warfare 3.

So would anyone buy Modern Warfare 3 if Americans/NATO countries were the enemies?

I have to say right now I don't think I'll be getting Modern Warfare 3, simply because I believe that no other developer could produce a decent Call of Duty game other than IF.

Unless they make up by their mistakes by making the main series of missions 15 hours long and the game comes with free cookies and hand jobs I wont touch it, I dont care if im fighting aliens from another galaxy

i will, i love the modern warfare games, and people who say its shit are lying, its one of the best FPS online games ever made im, yes some matches are annoying when people exploit some of the faults

Let me tell you, i'm a halo fanboy, but even I thoughtg mw2 deserved every 10/10 score it got.

Great singleplayer, good story, great multiplayer, large amounts of weapons and customization, it even had a 3rd person mode.

If my country were the enimey, then i'd want to play it even more. It's a POV that simply is nigh impossble to find these days.

Yes, easily. That sounds badass. No language barriers anymore, making me actually 9If only very slightly) connect with the AI I'm about to kill. Before they were so alien that they may as well have BEEN aliens. Talking in a language I don't understand, with AI easily distinguishable against a real human, it wouldn't have made much fo a difference if they had two arms or six.

Plus, I'll likely only be getting MW3 mainly to tie up the Soap/Makarov/Price/Shepherd storyline.

An enemy in a video game is just an enemy in a video game... I would double bop goombas if they were NATO or US soldiers same as I'd shoot any video game enemy.

I'll buy it. Why would I car who the enemy is? In a few of the MoH games you play as the Axis and the Allies so it doesn't really bother me who I play as as long as the game is good.

what is with the massive angsty hate on "america fuck yeah" attitudes as of late? first off i hardly ever see someone say it, and they are 99% of the time trolling or making fun of the stereotype when it is mentioned, and furthermore the call of duty campaigns really don't give that kind of vibe off, hell in mw2 the american general ends up being the bad guy and the british end up being the badass cool guys to save the day in the end of mw1 and mw2

but regardless, any game, anywhere, as long as the game is fun and is slightly interesting, i couldn't care who the enemy/allies are really.

I wouldn't buy the game no matter what. I've grown weary of the CoD series after World at War, and my god, that was a waste of money. Plus, I've grown sick of the cash cow franchise as a whole.

Anyway, I see nothing wrong with gunning down some NATO countrymen. Wtf do I care? I like shooting people, I don't really care what color they are or what nationality.

The nationality of the enemies wouldn't really affect my decision in the slightest.

It won't really affect my decision. If someone is evil, I'll kill them. If someone is trying to kill me, I'll kill them. If someone is shown from a suspicious looking camera angle, I'll kill them. In the game of course.

Just to clarify, I'm not suggesting using anti-nationalism against the US/NATO countries as a gimmick, but rather as political commentary to critique the US/NATO. I'm sure you've all heard of the wikileaks incident, involving US Army intelligence analyst, PFC (formerly SPC) Bradley Manning. Are you aware of his incarceration? MANNING HIMSELF is now experiencing the savage behavior of the Pentagon.

Manning has been in solitary confinement for more than seven months at a Marine brig in Quantico, Va. During that time, he has been subject to ongoing harsh treatment that, according to many experts, would rise to the level of torture under the Geneva Conventions (which Manning is not subject to, as he is not a prisoner of war).

This includes being confined to a 6-by-12-foot cell for 23 hours each day, constantly watched on video cameras, denied physical exercise and articles of clothing and bedding, denied sleep during the day and repeatedly woken by guards throughout the night.

The military claims Manning's treatment is standard for "prevention of injury" watch and that he is treated the same as any other detainee at Quantico--but these punitive measures are clearly designed to break his spirit.

Let's face it: the US/NATO do shady, morally ambiguous things that could be arguably war crimes. And if this is what the Pentagon is doing to save face over a few leaked diplomatic cables, how far would they go to cover up corruption (i.e. Gen. Shepard) in the military leadership? I would be fairly interesting if MW3 would be able to criticize the US military and nationalism.

I have a particular fondness for FPS games, but even so. Unless the game is colorful, massive, immersive, slightly openworld, customization-packed and legitimately FUCKING AWESOME, it wouldn't be worth the $300,000,000 Activision will make.

Seriously. You'd think Activision could have made a better ending. It was decent till that last little bit. One of the characters at the end of Black Ops should have just said "Fuck yeah... America". It didn't need that and the game was more about the characters than the country.

I think if the story is written well and can justify it, the enemy won't really matter. Anyways, in the end, the game's mostly about shooting dudes.
