Poll: Monster Hunter FU?

Recently I got a psp because me and my friends, being big Koei, thought it would be cool to finally play a DW game with all four of us at once.

Anyway, since getting DW Strike Force, I have been looking into other multi player games for the PSP and I happened to see a few commercials and videos for Monster Hunter Freedom Unite so I thought I should look into it. I haven't played any of the other games in the series, but it seems like typical RPG fun.

If any one has any experience with the game, or any other suggestions of games like it, please post, post like the wind!

I've not played it, but I would either wait for tons of good reviews, a price drop, or just buy a DS.

There is a demo on the PSN if your interested, it should give you a good indication of whether you'll like the game or not. The demo also has multiplayer support as well so I highly suggest you go download it. To me they seem like very polarizing games, you either love it or hate it depending on what you look for in a game.

EDIT: also if you do manage to like Monster Hunter, then I suggest you also look into Phantasy Star portable. A demo of that game is ALSO on the PSN AND you can carry on your demo data to the full game. So if you reach the demo's level cap and got tons of items from it, the demo's save file can be carried over to the retail version.

I'm not 100% sure, but i think the multi player is only online.
i have played the Ps2 and PSP version, both are fun, but I din't play it for verry long.

Oh really? Guess I must have missed that, it is weird cause I looked on the PSN network and found most of the videos they had for it, but I didn't see any demo for the game itself. Anyway I will go back and check.

ive had Monster Hunter for ps2 and psp and they both sucked. Sorry to the Monster Hunter fanboys but that game is so boring and combat is so bad. It makes me sad to play it. I tried selling it back to Gamecrazy and they wouldnt take it back. Thats the first time ever they have not taken a game back from me. So im guessing everyone else was like well this sux and sold it back. Sob now i got this game i have to keep on my shelf

Seconded. I wish they would release a Monster Hunter game on something other than Sony Consoles. The first Monster Hunter was on PS2 which i played and enjoyed. Now i have a 360 and i want to be able to play a monster hunter game or something similar on it...

Maybe even on PC, I dont know how it would work tho.

I played the demo and hated it. I've never played any other games in the series, so maybe I'm not the most qualified to judge, but it just seemed broken. The controls were clunky and the limited moves you could pull off were unimpressive. Perhaps the final game is more polished, it seems to be really popular in Japan, but what I played left a bad taste in my mouth.

Monster Hunter was always fun to play. Hard, but fun. I voted yes. To everyone who votes "get a DS", I'd say that it's really only a good idea if you plan to play with others. DS is a ton of fun when you get 8 players going on Mario Kart... but if you are alone it might as well be Monster Hunter.

monster hunter has never disappointed ... if you study and get into it it'll suck you in and you'll love every second of it

I have a PSP, and I don't hate it as a system but I really have to say.

It's not worth having if you don't get it hacked.

The games cost a buttload of money and the whole thing is generally a pain in the ass, especially with those funky disc cases. I hated my PSP up until I got the hacked firmware. Then I finally started enjoying it.

Monster Hunter 3 is being released on Wii. To me this makes no sense, monster hunter has always been about wide open surroundings and huge monsters so if they want to improve the graphics it should have been made for 360 or ps3. Another thing monster hunter has always been big on is cooperative multiplayer, so why make it for the Wii when the online capability is shit. There ive had my rant on the shitty Wii and can stop curb stomping children with frustation. Thank you for the release

Well thats shit because i dont have a Wii and i dont intend to get one...

And it's about the online multiplayer as well as the single player and from what i've heard from people, the Wii isnt that strong when it comes to Online. I dont know. Maybe other people think differently.

Monster Hunter FU is a fantastic game, easily one of the hardest games to master on the psp, however in europe you can only play localised multiplayer games as the server for it is not up yet, also, i am not sure whether this game can be shared between psp's, your friends might need to buy them as well. oh and the camera is still a bit dodgy, like all monster hunters

Side note: custom firmware will not link with the original copy of the game, as far as i've seen.

Honestly, you should stay away from Monster Hunter. I bought it. I wanted to like it, I really wanted to. The fact that it's a pretty tough, skill based game really drew me in. But there's just one complaint I have. And it's such a big complaint that it ruined the game for me. The camera is hands down the worst camera in any video game I've ever played in my entire life. It's completely broken.

I've heard people say that it was designed this way to increase the game's difficulty, but that's bull. A broken camera is not an adequate way to raise a game's challenge level.

If you have a PS3, I'd recommend that you get Demon's Souls instead of Monster Hunter. Better graphics, brutally hard difficulty level, simple yet incredibly deep combat, no broken camera, and you don't have to run around collecting herbs
