The first choice: I will go........because i'm a pushover and the other team-mates will probably mutiny against me and push me out against my will, at which point I 'might as well' die useful right? I'll piss on the plants before i hand them in, though :p
......yes, I'm juvenile, DEAL WITH IT! at least i'm role playing, instead of being racist against robots, who by the way, will be the only one trying to stop my 'mates', but they'll reboot him becuase he's 'useful'. Humans are cruel selfish beings.

I wouldn't be able to decide, because I'd be busy wondering what kind of super cool society I live in where aliens, hot people, scientists and intelligent robots are NOT minorities!

Well obviously the robot...it knows the navigation better than anyone, and it won't feel any pain. Plus, a human life has more intrinsic value than a robot's, and it will be saving the very race that caused its conception. Simples.
the navigation back home....
Shit, that makes things a little different...hmmm...still the robot I guess...

Everyone goes out and we attempt to save each other as we go. The robot stays since I'll assume he is the best pilot if we all die.

I go out, obviously. I am the least valuable member of the mission, it can continue without me.
This kinda reminds me of Bios, minus the cure.
The atmosphere is highly toxic, and will just turn people to biological sludge quickly enough.

I'd just use your average space suit and nobody would have to breath the toxic air...?

Ok, I get that the point is that one person HAS to die, in which case I say: The least useful/necessary. Simply being "an alien" or "a hot chick" or minority (or even a scientist) is completely irrelevant.

So. No asking among the team who would be willing to go out and sacrifice themselves to save Earth?

Also I understand that we may not know the condition of the planet until we got there but I imagine we may have prepared for worst case scenario. Including stuff like making an extra tough robot that isn?t sentient or a suit that protects against really harsh environments?

since this is in space wont there be space suits or vehicle that will protect me with breathable non killy air in tanks and hence no one has to die :D

Screw heroics and sending another person to death.

Sure the robot is aware, but that's what he was designed for, so it's a useful tool.

Obviously the scientist, alien, robot and I will have to live, since we seem to be the only ones on board with any useful defining characteristics. It's either the hot guy/girl or the minority whom I'll boot out.

But if they all had equal qualifications...the robot, scientist, alien (especially), and I would still need to live. Though...as much as I love robots, I value human life more than robotic imitation. However, I think adding the robot makes this choice way too easy.

So, disregarding the robot, if I had to pick someone else, I'd...make sure the scientist stayed, because they'd need him. And the alien would have to stay too, because...well, it's an alien. And that's boss. That leaves the hot person, the minority and I, and as much as I'd love not dying, I think I'd actually prefer dying on a different planet as opposed to just on Earth. If I really liked the other two people, and wasn't looking forward to anything in my future, hell yeah I'd go. But if they were jerks, I'd assure that one of them was the one to go.

And now I just have to wonder why on Earth we'd build a machine to go to a different toxic planet without any way of collecting specimens that didn't involve a sacrifice.

Draw straws or something. Seriously. WIth no other information (like one of them was a rapist choosing to volunteer for the space army to serve their time) we don't know who has what. What you're asking is, would we discriminate over someone because of their appearance, since the robot is self aware, therefore as "human" as anyone else, I'm assuming.
Soooo.... [rolls die] 3!
I send the alien.
Alien isn't in the poll.

Have the robot input it's nav data onto the computer then send it out.
Or hell, write it down.

Anyone who goes out is going to be writing in agony as acid eats away at their internal organs, so cover the robot in sunscreen, or water or oil or a space suit or any liquid really, then it can head out and grab the thing.

Failing that, move the ship closer.

Or maybe the alien is a native to this planet (hence why we bring an otherwise qualificationless extraterrestrial onto a human-centric mission) and we just send it.
Of course the token minority and the hot girl don't have qualifications either. Also: if there's just enough acid to kill someone the moment they get back to the ship and into the airlock so we can obtain the plant, why not have the most athletic person go and just run both ways? They must have some breathing apparatus that can stay intact at least until things become fatal, so accelerated breathing is hardly an issue.

right, well, it all starts simple enough. you are with a SPAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAACE team consisting of
1 scientist
1 hot girl/guy/thing (im not judging)
1 alien
1 minority (note: im not racist, this is just for the choice)
1 robot
you

The situation:

You are on a mission to a distant planet. The foliage contains the cure for the disease that will wipe out humanity. However, the air will kill anyone before they can make it back to the ship, the robot will rust. But, they can survive long enough to deliver the foliage to your ship. What do you do?

EDIT: also, the robot is a self aware, claptrap-y sort of thing, he cant be copied or replaced. also, he knows the navigation home better than anyone else, the air is acid like, and you must send someone out or leave
You don't mention if the robot is capable of suffering. it's really important in an ethical consideration to know if it can suffer or not.

Edit: That also goes for the alien. It might be a species that doesn't suffer or feel pain.
