I can't believe somebody at Ubisoft thought that with would be a good idea:

Enough is enough. I didn't want to pre-order Watch Dogs, not just because I didn't believe the hype, but because I didn't know what the fuck I would be getting. Classic case of consumer paralysis. I wanted to get the full version later, and now this happens. They're making it really easy for me to start ignoring their products altogether out of principle. They're worse than EA and Activision at this point.

You have to play their shitty little game for a mere CHANCE to win some things, among which are actual in-game items. So you can't even pre-order everything even if you wanted to. I'm not sure why would you want to at this point.

So why do people still fall for this crap? I just needed an excuse not to spend money on their games. Yet the YouTube comment section is filled with people that are angry because they can't participate. Fuck this company and their shitty anti-consumer practices.

I don't know...I'm sure some of that merch and in-game items would be availible later....like for example the collectors edition of Tomb Raider came with the Play arts figure which I imagine is availible later

So pre ordering gets everyone a special mission and then if you choose to play the slots game you can win other cool prizes ranging from in game weapons to a trip to Paris? That actually seems really cool, why on earth would that make you mad?

I mean, I still won't get it because I don't care about Assassin's Creed but that's a pretty cool deal.

Chill man, it's not really worth getting worked up over. This is more for fans of the series (as in people who liked more than just 1 and 2) and it's actually kinda neat how they've made the prizes that can be won a bit more than just signed artwork or a thanks for playing gift bag. Whilst I'm not gonna pre-order it (mostly because can't be fucked holding onto a receipt for that long) I actually think getting a view of the Assassin's Creed dev studio would be pretty fuckin' cool, same as the chance to go visit another country.

As for your comment on, "dunno what this game is about yet" (<--Heavy paraphrasing going on right about there) I'm not rel sure what you mean by that. Do you mean the setting? The gameplay? The story? I mean, I feel as though those answers are pretty simple aren't they?

If I owned a PS4 already I'd ABSOLUTELY preorder it.
But I don't.
So I won't.

Honestly, this seems like a nice way of rewarding the people that would want this badly enough to preorder it. I am sick and tired of the whole preorder 'culture' for lack of a better word that seems to be dominating the AAA game industry, but that's a different matter. If I wanted this game, I'd be pretty happy with this as a bonus.

After Watch Dogs, I won't be preordering any more Ubisoft games ever, but I would also disagree that they're worse than EA and Activision, or that this is even anti-consumer.

You can win the Ubisoft studio in Montreal?! Holy crap popsicles!

I have to agree with the OP - what is up with this promotion? Pre-order to win some random prize that you have no control over? How great it would feel knowing that someone got a kick-ass spear and you got a one-time-use ring that restores 10% of your health if your health is below 25%.

Okay, I'm exaggerating, but this has a lot of clusterfuck potential.

Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy, I love the Assassin's Creed series, I have all the statues they released for every game, I can't wait.... Oh, I'm not in the US.

Looks like I get fucked over yet again, despite being (at the moment) in France. I am getting so fucking shit of all these competitions being US based. It's Europe, we're not the arse-end of Africa or anything.

I am blissfully uneffected by the preorder wars.

I never preordered a game in my life and I never will. I don't care if it's the best damn game that will ever see the light of day, I'll buy it once I see it lying in the shelves. And nothing you get when preordering has any value except collecting dust anyway. That or some crummy extra mission you'll try once and then ignore for the rest of your life.

I pre-order every game I'm interested in, forget about it and then receive it in the mail one day when I don't expect it. Happiness! Crappy games get repurposed as birthday gifts. :p

Anyways AC Unity is definitely on my pre-order list as well. Really liked the gameplay demo Ubi showed. Their rendition of late 18th century Paris looks absolutely gorgeous. The engine seems to be tweaked with improved animations. There are more indoor locations which makes the game more varied. And all of the game's assets are dedicated solely to next-gen.

AC Black Flag was(unexpectedly) one of my favorite games of 2013 and a definite step-up for the series. From what I've seen so far though I don't think AC Unity will disappoint either.

but don't you see the problem? it would cost far too much to send somebody who lives in France to France! they'd have to fly you out to the US so you can get a flight to France to go on your vacation!

i mean, why would they spend money on that extra flight, they aren't stupid you know...

How does it feel to be fucked over because you live in the country the game is set in and the grand prize takes you to?

I might get it if it's a big standout from the other AC games, but I'm definitely not preordering it no matter how much shit they tack onto it. I've never seen the appeal in prorder bonuses and I'm not going to start wasting money now.

To be honest I don't really see the big deal surrounding this. It looks like you'll be getting additional content regardless of whether you win or not and I don't see any problems with having a competition to help encourage sales. Though it does suck that it's US only.

Its a non issue for me, i pre order games i want to play, all this other stuff to make you buy the game doesnt effect me as none of it makes any difference to the game. Look at Watch Dogs, the PS got a free mission at 60 minutes long. I still played it on the 360 as that mission is meaningless to me and adds nothing. Not like you need it to understand the story and nor are the extra ingame stuff needed to complete the game.

Stopped getting worked about nothing and just by the game because you want to play. Not like your going to buy a game you hate just for that competition.

Hint: Some (ie. most) of us aren't so anal-retentive that we enter a Kotaku-style tizzy if we don't get ALL of the jackets and repainted weapons in a game.

Offering cosmetic stuff to lucky winners is actually a GREAT idea, not anti-consumer. I sometimes question if gamers actually have had to buy anything else in their lives, because the games industry is easily one of the most consumer-friendly industries I've ever bought from.

Oh my god fuck Ubisoft. I'm really sick of companies incentivising blind faith and especially sick of blind faith-exclusive content. Customers who wait until reviews are out should be rewarded for being sensible not punished for not being free with their money. Ubisoft has honestly jumped on just about every DLC-related bullshit idea that can reasonably be put in a full price game and it makes me glad that buying second-hand doesn't give a cent back. Publishers should be forced to allow reviews of the game in the last known state it was in when they allow preorders.

Then again, people have to make the judgement call, I suppose I'm just annoyed that it's rewarded in-game and people who like to play the full game need to be stupid about buying it.
