To be honest it seems like some Chris Nolan-John Carpenter mash up featuring Mortal Kombat characters! This HAS to be a movie. Or rather a combined reboot featuring both a new game and new movie set in modern times with gritty realism.

On the other hand it reeks of trying too hard.

It looks like they might have realized what makes a good Mortal Kombat movie: over the top gory kills combined with the stupidest plot known to man kind. And we have the added bonus of Scorpio being the main character, meaning we get to see some extremely awesome kills.

They kind of pissed on the lore of it, Baraka and Reptile are there own race of ... things, as is Sub zero who was killed by Lou Kang (or was it Kung Lao?) and Scorpion who was killed by Johnny Cage.

Anyway, this film looks amazing and I have the first two so I will have to get this aswell, damn my love of DVD collecting!

Well, it looks like money was spent but I see it as unnecessary to try to tack a big story onto mortal combat. Just give me good fighting scenes and I'll be happy enough.

Exactly, and it seems that the producers of this film have realised that; big ass tournament going on, you go in and kill them all. Simple and effective, it's all about the kombat afterall. Now lets see if they can deliver. If the first fight scene is anything to go by, they will.
