O.K. so in my mind 2011 was a pretty good year for gaming.

We had a lot of big releases come out in the second half of the year that have kept me glued to my controller.

However, with all that hype comes a lot of expectation, so my question is this:
What game did you expect to be great in 2011 but really just sucked?

Dragon Age 2 failed to live up to Bioware's usual standard. Design decisions screamed "rushed" and the game was just a big fat "meh".

L.A. Noire couldve been so much more. The idea was great, but the excecution not so.

And the ending, UGH, just awful in my mind. Yahtzee puts it best in his review.

(Oh look, it's this thread again.)

For me, it was Brink.

I mean... I don't even know how did I get sucked into that severe waste of $90?

Yep. L.A. Noire's ending sucked. The water in the sewers LOOKED AWFUL and there was no interrogation or investigation whatsoever. Lame.

Like yahtzee said, i...

expected some big ass investigation with suspects whic were really difficult to break, but instead i get some lame gunfight, very annoying.

Ah, never got to try Dragon Age 2. Loved Origins but this one didn't seem to offer anything new/improved.
Actually it was quite different from Origins. Especially the artstyle is not as uninspired as the first game. They made some improvements and screwed up some aspects. I think the story and characters were better but they streamlined the gameplay too much and they recycled the same areas for every single cave in the game causing an enormous amount of repitition.

Star Wars: The Old Republic

It's an MMO for people who don't like MMOs, made by people who don't like MMOs.

Though I still very much liked it, Alice: Madness Returns was a bit of a disappointment. I loved it to death the first couple hours because it seemed like the return of the 3D platforming games of the 90's/early 00's. But unlike most of those games, the gameplay didn't evolve. So it just became more and more dull as it went on. And for a game with such creative visuals, the soundtrack is sort of bland. That was pretty surprising. But again, I still liked the game.

The only game that I didn't like all that much this year was Two Worlds 2, but my expectations of it were low so I can't say it was a true disappointment. And even though I didn't like it, I've still recommended it to some people (particularly ones who enjoy exploration).

It was a pretty decent year.

Goty: Dark Souls

Most disappointing game: Uncharted 3 (6 hour single player and boring multiplayer)

Biggest fuckup: Skyrim on PS3. Bethesda should be in jail for false advertising and fraud.

I think logically the biggest disappointment would have to be Duke Nukem. I mean there was no way it was going to stand up to 14 years of anticipation, but it didn't have to be THAT bad.

Yeah, that was a disaster and made Skyrim a huge disappointment for me.

Saints Row The Third

WH40K:Dawn of War 2: Retribution
Mount & Blade: With Fire and Sword
The Witcher 2
Nvidia GTX 560ti

I can't speak for anyone else's purchases, but for me 2011 was a great year for gaming.

The only disappointment out of everything I purchased this year was L.A. Noire... it's an good game, it started off promising but didn't stand up to scrutiny and prolonged exposure. It became less interesting and the limitations of the core game and world became more apparent the longer I played.

Then again, if my biggest disappointment was a slightly above average game (yet still a remarkable and unique experience) amongst 7 stellar purchases, then I can consider 2011 to be a good gaming year.

I give it 9/10.

Eh, there wasn't much that i am excited about that wwas released, only Gears of War 3 and Skyrim. So it's below average for me. Then again, all i'm excited about right now is Halo 4, and that's only because that's the only thing that has been announced that i care about....Oh, and Mass Effect 3....

It was an okay year. There were a few releases worth two shits instead of only one. But that said, my most disappointing game was Saint's Row: The Third. It just didn't have any of the charm of Saint's Row 2.

Really disappointed with Skyrim. No matter what I do, I'm always ending up unchallenged, the game always gets easier. I could ignore upgrades but that doesn't change the fact it's still annoying, including I have nothing to look forward to in leveling.

Where have all the people that have had Skyrim always working fine on PS3 gone??? It's never stuffed up for me, and since its such a common complaint, im feeling pretty lucky.

Agreed. Origins was epic in every sense of the word. Following that was going to be tough no matter what but DA2 was a disappointment no matter what it was following. Repetitive areas, lacklustre story and dull characters made for a very disappointing game.
