To be honest, 2011 was a fantastic gaming year for me.

TES V: Skyrim was released and it was even better than I had anticipated it would be, however, the first few hours of gameplay were lacking as I hadn't gotten used of the new menu interface. I'll also give a special mention to Orcs Must Die! as it's definitely one of the more entertaining games that I've played this year.

Brink

I personally enjoyed it, but it was advertised as so much more than it turned out to be.

there were plenty of games that could have better, sequels that didnt live up to their predecessor, but i think we can all agree that duke nukem forever was a letdown of epic proportions

X-men Destiny anyone? Loved the initial concept and trailers.
Poor Execution, Bad Graphics, Weak AI, Short Completion time and Repetitive story for all three characters.

My biggest dissapointment of 2011 was Uncharted 3. Don't get me wrong, it's still a solid game and better than a lot of blockbuster releases, but it just wasn't good enough to compete with Uncharted 2 or even the first Uncharted. It was short and frustrating with a fairly uninteresting story; it just didn't live up to the 9s and 10s it was getting or any of the hype leading up to its release.
I actually love it way more than the other two. The main reason: It doesn't have the cheesy and distracting supernatural crap the first two games had. Instead, it keeps it focused on the man vs man rivalry that the series does so well.

Assassins Creed Revalations. The tower defense game and bomb crafting system just ruined the entire game. They even got rid of horses.

Pretty damn good year, all things considered. Deus Ex, Dark Souls, Skyrim, Portal 2, Space Marine, another Dawn of War expansion, Bastion, Dead Space 2, Arkham City, gears of war 3, battlefield 3, Dead Island....and those were all just what I played. I still haven't played Infamous 2, TOR, Rage or Killzone 3 yet.

Biggest disappointment? Considering I never had high hopes for Duke Nukem or Dragon Age 2, I'm gonna go with Assassin's Creed: Revelations. Wasn't bad by any stretch, just....I dunno, it didn't do anything for me. And the tower defense mini-game was pretty bad.

I haven't played it, but what you have here isn't much different than anything said on metacritic. I will however one-up that [http://www.gamespot.com/news/6159448.html] and add insult to injury. [http://www.joystiq.com/2011/07/15/silicon-knights-receives-canadian-gov-grant-to-hire-80-self-pu]

For myself; Deus Ex: Human Revolution. It had the potential to be a thrilling "Be an action star or be a spy movie star" premise, but just felt like it gave graphical updates to older games who had better stories. The forced boss fights didn't bother me, although I can certainly see why they would bother others. I just kept thinking "Wow, I feel like I've played this game before back in the early 00's". MGS:Sons of liberty, with a stronger story and better atmosphere.

Dragon Age 2. I was actually going to get this game brand new, until I saw all of the negative reviews it was getting. At that point, I decided to wait until it was $30 or so before I'd get it.

The second one would be Brink. Not nearly as good as it could of been, and it could of been great.

Nintendo as a whole. Yeah they've started to get going with the 3ds later on but it's still going slowly. On the Skyrim problem for PS3, I have it and yeah there's some lag at times but outside of that and a few glitches, which a few are funny, it's a lot of fun to play.

Bulletstorm is my personal greatest disappointment.

However it is tempered by the (imperfect) glory of Hard Reset, it's quite clear all the compromising hacks in People Can Fly (makers of Painkiller) went to work for Epic Games while all the real committed developers formed Flying Wild Hog studio to make Hard Reset.

Bulletstorm was a worse disappointment than even Duke Nukem Forever I'd say, maybe it's because I knew DNF was struggling and didn't have a strong recent legacy to follow. But Bulletstorm was following so relatively close on Painkiller that just got so many of the little things right, that was different from some other games yet Bulletstom came out so flat, so limited with style over substance. It was the "kill with skill" that was not about player skill but ended up just being the same auto executed move (whip close, kick away) that should have been a small part of the game.

The controls were terrible too. The slide-charging a poor compensation for lethargic movement; awful weapon selection paradigm; they even managed to screw up the aiming.

Dead Island. Thought it was going to be a seamless fusion of borderlands and dead rising. I was wrong.

Mixed.

While I FINALLY got a PS3/360, I have been rather...hesitant to buy any NEW games.

I really enjoyed this year with MW3, Saints Row: The Third, Portal 2, Minecraft and my favourite of the year Arkham City. But my most disappointing game was by far Brink. It wasn't all bad, I liked the gun and character customization and also the free running but another than that it felt somewhat empty and unoriginal. Not an awful game but I was expecting better.

2011 was an epic year for gaming, and i can measure that by how empty my bank account has become since the year began.

Anyway my personal biggest dissapointment was probably Bulletstorm. Of all the games ive played this year it was the only one that i forgot that i even owned. Im also going to second Hard Reset, was kinda pooped to see it end so quickly, though thats reportedly being remedied later next year.

Though when all is said and done an the votes counted, Duke Nukem Forever will probably stand twice as high on its own pedestal as a disappointment to end all disappointing games.
