Right first of all I pretty much play all types of games, but lately I've not been able to truely get into anything other than rpg's, shooters just don't seem realisic or gripping anymore you know? I think its important to get into the game "zone" like, to truely appreciate it, so am I the only one who thinks rpg's are the only game types that can pull a player in properly?

I find myself enjoying RPGs more than any other game type. I don't get into the same 'zone' with FPS games. With RPGs, I come up with a back story and stuff. Racing games get me into a similar zone, but it just isn't the same as a good RPG.

RPGs are the fastest game type to pull me in, but if another type of game is decent, it can pull me in just as well.

My first instinct was to say FPS games, because it's from the point of view of the character, but I'm gonna go with survival horror, due to the atmosphere of the best ones in the genre.

If I enjoy it within the first 5 - 10 minutes, I get reallly in the zone with RPG's. Not MMO's though.

What RPG's have you been playing?

And yes they are the most immersive, but I still play counter-strike more than any rpg simply because it is quick, easy and convenient.

Normal RPG's not really MMO. I think playing by myself and not seeing stupid people saying things like "noob" and other stupid terms makes me really get into the fantasy world.

While FPS games are great to pick up and play, in terms of immersiveness, I think RPGs take the cake. There are so many character building elements in RPGs these day, you can't help but feel a little sucked in when you play one.

Ironically, I'd have to go with MMOs. Its hard to do without the right mentality though. If you go in without a goal in any MMO, its a pretty immersive experience. The second you look at that goal, power level, grind something, its gone though, and it doesn't really come back sadly.

I would have to go with the majority with this one and say RPG. Though I don't think it's fair to include MMO with it. It's a completely different kind of game.

And doesn't this thread belong in the gaming discussion forum, instead of off topic discussion?

RPGs are built around making you feel like your another person, so they should be pretty immersive.
