This is the wierdest question, but I wanna ask it; Do you consider a football as a football, or a soccer ball as a football?

Soccer balls are White and Black, footballs are brown and are not really 'ball' shaped.

Siiigh ok lets do the logic thing on this shall we?

Try to keep up now....

This -->

IS A FOOTBALL You use your FOOT to move it around a field.

This -->

IS A HANDEGG!!!! You THROW IT with your HANDS.

Jeez people c'mon it aint that hard, also when you invent a sport you get to name it, therefore being American and saying "Ooooh lets call it football!!" just because it's a name for the most popular sport already is no excuse.

Now dont get me wrong, i follow NFL as well as football. I enjoy both sports in their own respective ways. However the naming a sport FOOTball when clearly most of the time the ball is spent in a persons hands, is just plain silly.

Since when do sports have to be logical?

I call them like most Americans. "Football" is soccer, and Football is football.

Being American, to me soccer is soccer and football is football.

What I love the most about this debate is the elitists who consider "soccer" to be the American bastardization of their beloved sport, when the word actually came from Britain~

Will start calling it a handegg just cos it's really funny yet makes more sense than "football". Thank you! (BTW, I'm American.)

As a Scandinavian, I call the sphere a Football, and the Egg an American Football.

However, to my knowledge, the term "Foot Ball" doesn't have to do with whether or not you kick the ball, but is rather derived from medieval times, where nobles would play ball games from horseback, while the common folk would stay on foot.

Hence the term, Foot Ball. A ball to be played with on foot.

But even at that, I'm fairly sure the Brits had dibs on Football a few years before the Yanks started playing their own, somewhat more brutish, version.

To me, the American version is greatly lacking in finesse, even if I don't care for either sport in particular.

Being Australian i call soccer balls soccer balls and footballs footballs (the correct way). But it would make more sense to name soccer balls: footballs (because you kick them with your feet and rarely touch them with your hands) and name footballs: footthrow inflated rubber (because it is thrown more than kicked and it isn't a ball. It's inflated rubber). That would solve the problem. Or we just call soccer balls: soccer balls. It would be much easier.

Although i rarely find myself in a situation talking about football and soccer.
