Specifically, chainsawing in Gears of War. Seriously, I didn't even play online and yet it felt better than any kill I've managed playing against human beings.

But in general, I prefer close quarters combat because I'm much, much better at it than sniping.

The most satisfying kills I ever had were in the Splinter Cell games and Team Fortress 2 as a spy. There was something so primordially rewarding about silently stalking your group of prey, hunting each one down after separating it slyly from it's pack, and then hanging down from a pipe and breaking it's stupid henchman neck/slitting their soldier throat. I smile in the dark as I watch the dwindling remainders of the once-proud mercs start to become more panicked and upset, while in TF2 I love the feeling of the team flip a sh** after I key one of their favorite members, then cloak away into the dark only to emerge moments later to cut another beloved fighter down.

For me, coming out victorious against all odds is the most satisfying way to kill.

For instance, when outnumbered 3 to 1 in Gears of War, all of them advancing on your position, and you somehow oneshot all of them, one after another, in a glorious display of grace and gore, with just a sliver of health left.

Or in Team Fortress 2, with all of your other teammates dead, you and a medic buddy somehow hold off an entire teams onslaught as they try desperately to push the cart two feet into the final checkpoint, leaving a pile of burning/shredded/gibbed BLUs strewn about your base.

Or Left 4 Dead, the enemy team (with full health and medpacks) is about to make it to the helicopter, and you are the last tank. After an incredibly hard battle with a noob team backing you up, you somehow finish them off by knocking one or two off the building, then cornering the rest as your team finally helps out and downs them all at the same time.

All of the above leave you with an adrenaline rush and a feeling of pure awesome that can only be described as "HELL YEAH!"

Online: a melee bash/chainsaw/knife slash while some idiot is busy tea-bagging a corpse
Offline: sniper shot to the head in GoW(1 and 2)

I always make a screenshot of something that shouts "OMG DID I DO THAT SHIT?!".
That's what I call "awesome Oppressor job".

i think there's nothing better then creeping up on someone/something and obliterating it before it knows you're there.

Nothing will ever beat across the map head-shots.

Nothing cause you more satisfaction and the enemy more rage.

Decisions, decisions...
"Just blow everything up" because Corpse Explosion in D2 was/is GREAT!
"Silenced pistol from close range" because I love Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow
"Snipe someone from long distance" because its fun to see someones head explode whilst looking through a high powered scope

"Silenced pistol from close range" gets my vote - very satisfying... *sighs*

Killing someone in Counterstrike Source with a smoke grenade or flashbang. Puts a huge grin on my face.
But for normal kills, I prefer the BOO kaboom right in the face. I like starteling people, and I also like them knowing I was there the whole time, muahahahaha.

my favourite have to be sniper kills. especially when they arent done with a sniper rifle.

theyre much more satisfying when you can pull it off with an RPG or rocket launcher

Sniping, as you usually have the time to pick your favourite target and hit it accurately.

There's something soul-destroying about beating the turrets in Portal with a cube.
Try it and you'll see what I mean. You knock it down and then keep going, just to stop it from shooting you.
The turrets are so flimsy that you feel like you have just beaten a dying animal to death.
It is never a good kill.

Making something land on them, meanwhile, that has some slapstick

Wiping everyone out with close range shotgun blasts and Flak Cannons (for the UT fans out there) has always been my favorite way of playing.

I just think it's more fun to run and gun (it shows a certain level of beardedness and testicular fortitude).

I like the blow-up-everything-within-range ideals

Ghost Reacon is purely priceless in the way you can run in on a convienently located every-twelve-feet enemy safehouse with a grenade launcher and/or anti tank weaponand blow the 6 or more baddies up with a not so well placed rocket. (although you tend to blow yourself up too, which is a purely acceptable thing to do in co-op just for the level of hilarious-ness)

While sniper shots and stealth attacks are fun and satisfying, i think it is most enjoyable when u and 3 or 4 of ur closest friends rape the living heck out of a single newb.

To be honest I think sniper rifles take a lot of the fun out of shooters. Its infuriating getting shot by some camping dullard across the map. Also sniping is so boring, you sit....wait..... click. There's no action, no excitement and mopst importantly no chance to tea bag.

If you want to play point and click go buy Myst, keep your sweaty palms off my shooters!
Your argument was made invalid by that statement.
