so I always find that using a controller is much more natural then using a keyboard as I never have to look down to make sure that I press the crouch button not the grenade button (which would be followed by me hitting the crouch button and not the run for your life button). When ever I play a very combat orientated game on a console I find things to be very smooth and natural most of the time (when it isn't it is normally due to crappy button lay out), while on a computer it is very plain. Now of course this is biased as I have used controllers more then key boards and there are many that find keyboards to better (if anyone brings up shadow run (at least that what I think it is called) I am going to say it is one game).

I want to know escapist what to you like to control your games with?

Depends on the game. Usually mouse/keyboard but often Xbox 360 paddle as controls these days seem to be getting increasingly wonky.

Used to be Controller, then found Onlive and absolutely LOVE the mouse/keyboard.
I always have to use controllers when I'm at my friends houses though...

I'm equally comfortable with controllers or keyboard and mouse. I mostly play on PC these days, but some games I still play with a controller (CoD, Far Cry 2, etc).

For strategies; mouse/keyboard
For shooters; controller (unless its stalker; you guys know what I mean)
For RPGs; depends... Bethesda games and Mass Effect with controller, but KOTOR definitely needs a keyboard IMO.

Mouse and keyboard only. Console controllers are far too awkward for my liking.

I'm a dedicated PC gamer these days so almost all my games are keyboard and mouse. I'm thinking about a mixed config tough, movement and melee on the left hand side of 360 controller and relegate look and fire to my mouse.
I considered that, but it wrecks your brain, and most games just won't let you.

I usually go with a controller wherever movement is important (because 4 binary direction keys don't cut it), and mouse/keyboard for everything else.

Depends on the game.. I play race games, side scrollers, fighting games with a controller and shooters, RTS, RPG's with mouse and keyboard.

Usually mouse and keyboard but ever since I got Super Meat Boy I got my ps3 controller working and I use that for more stuff now, mostly platformers.

Depends on genre. If it's say, a racing game, definitely I'm going for the controller. Mostly, however, I'm a PC man. I can't stand combat games (assuming you mean fps) with a controller. You might as well put flippers on my hands because I can't aim with a stick for shit. The mouse imo is FAR superior for that. But, as you say, this is more of a practice thing.

Can't say I've ever hit the G key instead of the control key/ 'c' key... Do you type with two fingers like my dad? You really should learn the key positions on your keyboard. Lots of uses in IRL ;)

The controller.

While the mouse still has superior aiming control, for movement, vehicles and simplicity the controller beats the M+KB by a mile.

thumbstick = mini joystick. It's better for flight type stuff, or driving if you don't have a wheel. Also action games are better with a gamepad. But the vast majority of 1st and 3rd person games are better with a mouse.

IMO.

yes that was an exaggeration it is more me hammering what I think is the grenade button then realising I was hitting 'h' instead but I can sometimes type without looking but I can type very quickly while looking.

Mouse/keyboard is generally always superior, unless were talking about a driving or platforming game, then I'd go with a controller.

I'm into third person games and lots of 3D platformers, so controller.

After i got back to PC gaming i could not even watch the footage of a FPS being played with the controller.

So no more controllers. Only mouse/keyboard for me.

No particular preference. I would think FPSs would work best with a mouse/keyboard, but since that isn't a genre I'm really into anyway, it's not a big deal. RTSs definitely need a mouse/keyboard, or at least a mouse anyway. Platforming games generally work best with a controller esp. 3D platformers.
