It's mostly a gimmick, but as people learn how to use the technology well, it will become more engaging. That probably won't happen until 3d becomes consumer level but it'll happen eventually.
Your argument assumes that 3D media is equivalent to color TV. It's not. 95% of all media using 3D doesn't utilize it to its full potential, let alone use it to make a difference in the movie. And the only reason companies are jumping all over it is because it's new technology and the whole industry is acting like a bunch of immature high-schoolers going "NEW FAD! NEW FAD! MONEY!"samonix said:Do you think back in the 50s people were moaning that films were in colour for no reason?
3D is probably going to be the future with almost every cinema having 3D screens, 3D TVs being made and even 3D porn.
So why did the trend die out once before?samonix said:Do you think back in the 50s people were moaning that films were in colour for no reason?

I agree, the whole 3D thing is getting ridiculous (Piranhas 3D) plus you have to pay and extra 4 or 5 bucks each ticket, if anything 3D makes me not see movies.DiMono said:Am I the only one who thinks it's stupid to put most movies in 3D?
Avatar worked in 3D because it was literally designed from the outset to be a 3D experience. Alice In Wonderland had a lot of shots that were greatly enhanced by 3D. Tron's going to be awesome. But what benefit is there to putting movies like Step Up 3 in 3D? Or Yogi Bear (which shouldn't have been made in the first place; stop destroying things I loved as a child!), or The Nutcracker? And don't even get me started on the idea of "upscaling" 2D movies into 3D.
3D in its current form is immature and likely to be a passing fad as technology moves on to something better; stop drowning us in 3D movies that make no sense!
I've heard they're trying to develop 3D technology that doesn't require you to wear those glasses and potentially get a headache. So that would be kind of cool. Aside from that though, I really wish filmmakers would get off this bandwagon and wait for the technology to mature.JWAN said:3D will never, ever become the future of anything, not even an original future gimmick. Its been done before, it sucked then and it sucks now.
The future will be better, sharper images not cheesy 3D headache machines. This isn't fucking communist Russia, we know better things exist.
You mean filming a movie in 2D and then trying to convert it to 3D doesn't work? Why don't people tell me these things!?Wuvlycuddles said:When the 3D is just an afterthought and is just terrible (Clash of the Titans for example) it just adds insult to injury.
Maybe some people would like to see the movies, but can't because they either need glasses to see the screen and have to wrestle with wearing 3d glasses over their seeing glasses, or the 3d effect gives them a massive migraine.Slavoc said:Well Avatar was fantastic in 3D, I say it was the best movie visually ever.
As for you people complaining about every movie becoming 3D now adays. STOP GOING TO THE MOVIES, you do not have to see these movies, it's your choice to. So shutup a your face you stupid gaboon.
