We are currently in a war with a Muslim nation; it is a historical near-certainty that certain elements in our society will be attempting to encourage fear and paranoia with regards to Muslims.

no..I dont think the whole muslim thing is as bad as people make out, and its just baed in fear and ignorance since 9/11

however another issue (in Australia) which I sort of understand is the dislike of "multicultralism" as in ethnic groups sectioning themselfs off from the rest of Australian society, I can see where it breeds an "us vs them" mentality

Some better grammer would be nice, but yes, any time we are at war with someone or somthing, naturaly people are led to believe in sorts that the enemy is a vile thing to the core. Japanese, Germans, British, Africans, Pacific Islanders, whenever people are at war (or making war) with somthing, the populous starts to take that racist ignorant stance, usually led on by the government or parts of the media.

Unfortunatly its led to a big resurgence in white supremacists in America. The Tea Party is a thing... Ugh... Breaks my heart everytime I think about that.

This question is extremely confusing. Do you mean "Do you believe Muslims are contributing to the increase in violent crimes?" If so, the answer is clearly yes, but what's not clear is that it's their religion causing it. After all, Muslim immigrants to Europe often arrive illegally, dirt poor and without any means beyond crime to support themselves--just like every other new ethnic group that begins immigrating to a multicultural society. If Europe would work harder at instilling a few base values rather than confining Muslims to ghettos and freaking out about fringe issues like burkas, they'd be in a much better place. In America, on the other hand, Muslims are doing quite well and generally assimilating, though the Islamophobia sparked by 9/11 certainly hurt that process.

The question's kind of vague. Do I think Muslims are coming into our countries and causing damage? No, not at all. At least, not more than any new group of immigrants has in the past.

Do I think that people think it's happening and are reacting to it? Of course. A lot of western media and culture after the war started has shown Muslims in a terrible light. Even those who claim tolerance of every other race and culture seemingly now has a problem with Muslims.

Europe is blaming Muslims for the increase in rape? How did they get to that conclusion?

I would agree that there are quite a few people out there with the whole mentality that all muslims are horrible people and that quite a few may be afraid of muslims in general but I wouldn't say that this whole "muslim scare" affects the majority of people.

Speaking of the "us vs them" mentality, that exists in England too. A friend of mine, living there, noticed that it seems to be that the pakistanis will only be in the company of pakistanis and same goes for the indians, sudanis even the white people. I have never really understood this though I can only assume that it's because of similar cultural background and people feel more comfortable around people who would have have the same background as them, especially in a foreign country.

Though I must say that I live in Ireland and I have never experienced this. Well among the younger generation anyways. Everyone seems to hang around with everyone else. Though this would be in smaller towns. Bigger cities such as Dublin may be different.

I think the scare is being stirred up by the media but I'm not sure about how much the average man on the street believes. I think some people are just always xenophobic, and they shift the source of their hatred whenever the media tells them to. First its the Japs, then the dirty Commie Ruskies, and now the Arab nations trying to cut off our oil and rape our women.

But I do think that in general in both the US and Europe the degree of intellectualism is on the rise, and while some newspapers are clearly trying to stir up trouble, others are very determinedly sticking to the less subjective view of world events, and more people are being exposed to it. I'm not naive enough to think that prejudice towards any other religions will go away entirely but I'm not sure how much of it is real sentiment and how much is media finagling.

I think that almost every religion is portrayed in a bad way, at least in the British media.
I for one don't believe in muslim scare, but i know it exists, if you know what i mean.

It annoys me that people seem to think every Muslim is a terrorist, seriously, one guy called the Police because he saw an Egyptian guy and three other Muslims go into a house together, but I do think Islam is beginning to dominate the West. Did you know Abdul is one of the most popular names on Britain?

The scare exists, yes. The reason for it is stupid.

The seeming rise in hard right-wing political parties across Europe is certainly worrying though, as is the whole banning the burka/hijab (there's one in the middle as well but I don't know what it is) business. I read an article that summed it up: it essentially touched upon the point that if a husband is forcing his wife to wear it (not always the case, especially not with Muslim women in the west), and the government is forcing her not too, then not only are you removing her right to choose (just like her husband) but you're also placing her in a highly difficult position. And again, this is with the minority that are under pressure to fully cover up.

Do I agree with the whole thing? No, of course not. But then I find the view of some Catholics and Christians towards homosexuals vile, as well as their attitudes towards women and their rights. People tend to forget that Judaism, Christianity and Islam all stem from the same regions, and have plenty in common.

Anyway, most Muslims get on just fine in Europe and the US (in terms of accepting Western "values"), and are not intent on destroying it/taking over (eugh... I feel stupid just repeating it), just like most Christians aren't intent on bombing abortion clinics and purging gays of their "sin".

May I ask where you got that from? I'm Muslim Pakistani and living in England in a very very very asian area (rather not say name for privacy reasons), but I have never met anyone called abdul.
I have only met one of my dad's friends who's name is abdul and my dad has dozens of friends.
P.S. Islam is not "dominating" the west, but there are a lot of Muslims in England, and I think people are confusing different races to be the same. Also those people are not Muslims (Except a very small minority like me who work on thei rbelief a lot), just Muslim by "race" (if you know what I mean).
