I met a FIVE year old once on COD4. He was seriously 5, that isn't an exaggeration. That is more than a little disturbing to me. Shouldn't he be playing awesome mario games?

Parents don't know enough, but on the flip side when I have kids I will not censor the world from them.

The problem I have is that some younger kids are seeing access to this game as a 'badge of honour'. My 11-year-old is not (and will not) be allowed this game (although he's allowed to play some 15s). Some of his friends, however, have got this game and he feels like he's not one of the 'cool' kids because of it. I know this happens in life, peer pressure (smoking, skipping school, drugs etc) and I'm not saying it's a problem just with this game (or games in general) - but some parents are clearly being very irresponsible letting younger kids play this and it leaves the responsible parents to fight the old 'but all my friends have it' battle :{
Bloody annoying ;)

possible spoilers, but im not saying anything explictly. i wont ruin anything for you the way IGN ruined it for me.

today i was at mcdonalds and i heard a kid say "modern warfare 2." i went up and asked him, "are you getting MW2?" he said yes, he preordered it, than corrected himself saying his father preordered it. this worried me a bit. knowing how violent and explicit this game will be, just from seeing the trailers, i think this is not the game for children, or anyone under 18 really. these kids were not older than 14, and thats pushing it. my first thought was "why did this kids dad preorder this game?" and my second thought was "why the fuck arent these kids in school? its 12:30 on a tuesday!" but i digress. what im getting at here is:

Do you think parents address game ratings enough?
Should the "AO" rating be thrown around more to wake people up?
Do you dislike kids online as much as i do?
It's that exact same kid that will be online screaming the n word to anyone that kills him, and cussing like a pirate.

Some people are just idiots. If your child appears to be an idiot at a certain time in their life, then do not buy them such video games. If you yourself happen to be an idiot, then please do not use the online feature. Remember, age is just a number, but idiocy is for life!

This has been a public service announcement. =3

(Serious answer: I don't really have any strong opinions on violence in video games, but the thing I find kind of sad about this is that a lot of kids playing MW2 probably won't understand the themes of the game - i.e. the fact that the game is anti-war. I do worry that at a young age they'll interpret it as a glorification of war & violence, rather than appreciate its more complex message. But, then, there are much older people who would do that too, albeit in fewer numbers.)
Good point! How 'bout we test the children? I'm sixteen and I'm pretty damned intelligent (see my post in the tennagers and athiesm thread). I think I can handle some guys shotting each other...
