I recently purchased Fallout 3 GOTY Edition from Amazon for $26. I bought the Xbox 360 version since I heard it's much more stable. I also bought the GOTY Edition because I have already beat the regular game (never tried the DLC) and wanted to try the Add-Ons. It arrived in the mail today... the PS3 version :( Now I don't know what to do, should I try to exchange it for the 360 version or should I just keep it and start from the beginning. I wouldn't mind starting a new game, but I've heard horrible things about the PS3 version which have lead me to believe that it's virtually unplayable. Are these comments about the PS3 version true, or is it just a small problem that is highly exaggerated? (it doesn't make sense to me that a game developer like Bethesda would release an unstable title that could potentially harm their reputation)

I'm assuming you have both a 360 and PS3?

I'd just send it back. I mean, they sent you the wrong thing? You can activate all the DLC from the beginning (excluding Broken Steel)...but attempting Point Lookout at a low level is quite difficult...

When I bought Fallout 3 I heard the exact same thing, but playing it through I only found minor glitches that actually improved my Fallout experience...

Ex. One of the first bands of Raiders I fought had a raider in it that started randomly flailing around, killing all the other raiders it touched almost instantly and sending them flying like they just got Falcon Punch'd!

Great times...

I bought it from the Amazon Marketplace, so it could take some time to sort out before I get everything worked out. I'll do that if it comes down to it, but I'd rather keep it (since I like buying multiplats for my PS3). But only if I can confirm that the version isn't a total disaster .

Just keep it. You'll be getting Trophies instead of Achievements, anyway, and Trophies are way better. All the DLC's work and the only glitches are visual, like the sunset and sunrise look sorta meh. But if you are going to play a console version, which is unwise in the first place, PS3 version is just fine.

GOTY is super buggy, but it's a perfectly enjoyable experience without the DLC. I'd say just get the regular edition and avoid the DLC (you aren't missing much).

I got fallout 3 this christmas and I played it for about 3 days and it crashed 4 times on me. One time it somehow reset my PS3, no clue how that works but it did. Honesty though, I didn't like the game itself much anyway, so I've stopped playing it completely.

Unfortunately this sort of thing happens all the time in the gaming industry. You can usually trace the finger of blame back to a poorly planned deadline, understaffed team, or an idifferent port squad.

Well, I have the PS3 version of Fallout 3: GOTY and I've never had any problems with it (besides bad companion AI, but that's not so much a glitch as daft programming). I'm working my way through the DLC just now, and have racked up 80 hours without any noticeable problems.

The only glitches that I've had were with loading times. But I bought a new game disc and all was fixed.

I found that the regular version was quite ok. The GOTY version however is a heap of glitches. I've got both and I usually finish the regular version before installing the GOTY for the add-ons. Spares me a lot of trouble.

I've played it on both 360 and Ps3 and PC. And I'm here to tell you that the Ps3 version fucking. sucks. It runs like a total catastrophe with constant frame rate lag, graphical hiccups, and freezes. It's terrible, the texture quality also isn't nearly as good as the 360 version.

So, exchange, exchange, exchange!

So the Add-Ons are completely awful, but the main game is fine? That kinda sucks cause the only reason I bought the GOTY edition is cause it's complete with all Add-Ons. If that's true, then I'll definitely try to exchange it for the 360 version.

Missing much?

The downloadable content makes the game. True their are a few rubbish ones, but the Pitt, Broken steel, and point lookout are must haves, and they make the Fallout 3 experience that more enjoyable.

The 360 is superior, but I don't think it's by much. The graphics aren't as good, there's framerate/lagging issues too, but probably not too much that it'll hinder your gaming experience. The DLC is pretty buggy on both systems, though, so I'm not sure how well it's going to play on the PS3 considering everything else.

I've never noticed any major bugs on it, there's the odd minor graphical glitch here and there and it freezes sometimes after playing it for a long time but other than that it's fine.

I think it´s ok. Sure, you´re gonna have a few crashes but except for the big scene in Broken Steel, it did not become ´unplayable´ for me
