If she truely believes in that political ideal then yes. She's just not an active communist.
Problem is that its extremely difficult to make true communism work on a large scale otherwise I would be a communist too. It doesn't though so I'm just a plain old socialist.
I believed in communism until I was like 17, after that I realised how much of a dream it is, and how little of it can be realistically achieved. I still think it would be the greatest thing, except it will never ever ever work. Too bad, really.

Much like libertarianism, the true goal of communism is anarchy.
Communism is the opposite of anarchy, it everyone working together as equals toward a common goal. I LOVE the idea of Communism, but like everybody has said, its idealistic and doesn't work on a large scale

the original idea behind communism is fine, it just didnt taken into consideration that people are a-holes when given power. With how humanity is right now, communism is impractical.

The thing about communism is that it just doesn't work, i mean it's a wonderful idea in a way but it doesn't work, there's a reason it's called "shared poverty". What you want to do is explain the scientific facts about how communism works or doesn't work, also you should ask her to show a country where communism worked just the way it should have.

I think you just /thread your own thread.

However I do think if she really supports Communism (or a planned economy), she should visit Vietnam for a few years. Not saying it's not a great place to live, but it's not for everyone. Or if she want's to live somewhere where individualism is not at important as it is in Western society, she should live in Japan for a few years.
Where has this individualism vs communism thing come from? Japan is capitalist as hell.

Some of these things confuse me...

I'll get on topic in a moment, but I just want to branch-off for a second...
Some Americans don't want to change their hospital/health system, because they are afraid it will be like "those communists", right? But, as far as I'm aware, America and China have a very, very similar hospital/health system.

Can someone who knows more about this confirm/correct me please?

OP: I really think your friend is just young, naive or perhaps trying to be a loose cannon, a renegade... next she will say she is bisexual or vegetarian.

communism works great on paper, but people are dicks(there are other problem too n´but that's the big one).
you don't want to be equal, you want to better than your neighbor, you want to drive the faster car, have the bigger house and the hotter wife.
also i once read an article about the possibility of communism with star trek replicator tech. i really liked that since i believe that almost all of societies problem can be solved with technology(since the reason for a lot of problems can be removed)

She's going through a phase it seems like. Seems she doesn't really know anything about communism as well.

She pretty much means that she is in favour of that system and if she could pick one then that would be the one she would like to live under.

Thread just seems to be a bit pedantic.
Mm Yes. Shallow AND Pedantic...

Also, who cares if she's communist? It's a way to look at society, none of them are perfect. What is this 1947's America? Are we gonna lock her up for her views?

No, anarchy is actually the opposite of what you're saying. Anarchy means not having a central government, hence communism without one, is an anarchy. And just everybody working towards a common goal is not having a central body to guide them.

Communism only has such an appeal because it's typically brought about through a romanticized armed struggle that takes years to do. That looking at it through glass looks very nice at the get go. But swiftly corrupts itself.

Maybe communism would of been a much better system had Lennon not died so quickly. But he did, and every country that tried communism has some major problems.

Your friend is, I want to say just posing. Being the social outcast to stand out. But seems she really seems to believe in communism. Well one day she'll realize how stupid it is and get over it, or you can hope she can.

My uncle calls me a comrade, to that I'm a communist. Not so much as an insult but to a joke. I like the Red Army, not the system that it fought for.
You could say I'm a nazi in that way than. I like the German army of WW2, not for the atrocities they committed, but they look awesome. They're equipment and weapons are awesome.
But it's a very narrow sighted approach isn't it.

Anyways, unless she starts shoving it down your throat and insulting you with capitalist pig remarks. I think it's safe to remain friends?

Not really, the goal of both is a stateless society. Heck the only differences between Anarcho-Syndacalism/Anarcho-Communism and Communism are the ways in which they bring about a stateless society.

The only problem is those numbers are bollocks. Stalin's death toll is between 3-5 million and Mao's is unknown.
Can you provide a source for this? Reading this made me have an "eerr..what?" moment.

I suppose one can be anything, but people tend to forget Communism is a governmental system that works like any aristocratic system. Yes it tries to balance out economics, jobs, health, quality of life from the top down. The trouble is after a certain point(larger than a small city) those in charge live like kings and start taking resources for themselves. Kinda like what Unregulated Capitalism is doing now.

Regulated Socialism seems to work better at least the people are are healthy and government corruption comes from else where than corporations all the time.

I live under a conservative right wing government in Britain but I'm still a socialist. I vote Labour every election.

I knew a few people who have believed in communism and that's fine with me. The worst thing is people get the Russian dictatorships of, for example, Stalin confused with actual communism.

In my view communism isn't going to work until our society has advanced quite a bit. I think democracy works better for the world at the moment. Even though it seems a little broken in places.

I knew someone like that, he wasn't a communist he was a "LOLEDGYKommunist!", who wouldn't last a day in a real communist country. I told him time and time again about how many people starved as a result of collectivist farming and how devastated the USSR's economy was at the end of the Cold War but he didn't listen. People think try to be edgy by adopting an ideology that goes against the mainstream government attitude without truly understanding it a lot.
