They're playing farmville because their friends are playing, word of mouth spreads, and so everybody plays.
But even if Zynga promotes a hardcore, non-browser game, i bet the people who play farmville will not jump ship. Farmville is a social activity, interaction with other people, in form of a farming simulator. It doesnt represent gaming, it represents simple leisure..
Thank god for that eh?Venerax said:Give her Portal, I'd like to know the reaction/change in attitude.
I'd say Portal is one of the most casual-friendly, and yet greatest, games out there.
Well yeah, i kinda sounded absolute on my previous post though. Sorry bout that.geddydisciple said:razormint21 said:Farmville's not really introducing people to gaming. Or at least the gaming we believe in...

While i agree with you that most people won't "jump ship" i disagree that none of them will. If even 1/100 of the people who play farmville and other zynga games are introduced to the medium through zynga then we still win a massive victory for gamers everywhere.
Not really. The share they take up probably wouldn't exist anyway, because nobody would be playing anything. The game is actually evil because it's designed (or, less likely, accidentally turned out)to get you addicted. It constantly makes you come back to check on everything and while you're at it, you might as well "do a wee bit of nip&tuck here and there and buy this and that", which makes you come back again.SimuLord said:As gamers we need to recognize that Farmville is evil not because it is a piece of shit (although it is), but because it ultimately takes up market share that might otherwise be taken up by real, actual game publishers and game hardware manufacturers.
Good shout right there. My mother used to play farmiville and I got sick of her telling me how many eggs she got today so I got her Plants VS Zombies. Not much more thinking used but now she's hooked on that.Macgyvercas said:I picked the last option. She should go with Popcap. At least they have Peggle and Bejeweled (both of which require at least some amount of strategy)
