I'm sure everyone's been talking about Microsoft backing off from its DRM policies and frankly stupid "features", however, I'm hesitant to forgive them.

You see, I personally don't trust Microsoft to keep their word. Who's to say they won't add these "features" back on little by little? You know, like the frog in a pot analogy?

And this is what bothers me the most. I personally don't trust Microsoft any more than I can throw them now, and I refuse to buy an Xbox on principle.

But what about you guys? Are you as skeptical of this change of heart as I am?

I really don't think they'll try to add them back in. PR is everything; they got a vast amount of negative PR from trying to do it in the first place that there's no way they'll risk it again.
On top of that, adding requirements to something people already own would open them up to all kinds of trouble from people who suddenly find they can no longer use their device.

Nope i'm still not getting one, Microsoft had a chance to do something good with it & completely blew it.
And it's still too damn expensive.
And Kinect still blows.
And all of Microsofts idiot talking heads kept insulting & pushing aside gamers that didn't want to go to the "future". I hate to be the one to break it to MS, but the world isn't as connected as they seem to think it is.

I'm in the wait and see crowd. See how it goes for a year and it'll likely come down to which platform has the most games I'm interested in.

Microsoft may have taken a good step in the right direction with their change of heart, but I agree, they need to earn that trust back. I wouldn't be looking to buy an Xbone at launch after what they pulled, how staunchly they defended it, and how dismissive they were of their customers. Their behaviour right up until the point they realized they weren't going to win that battle was appalling. They demonstrated that they don't care about their customers, or value what they want at all unless it's going to cost them a lot of money, and it's going to be up to them to prove otherwise in the coming years.

Right now though, they remind me of an abusive spouse. They seemed really nice until the first time they hit you, then they apologize and tell you it will never happen again. Sorry Microsoft, but you're going to have to prove it. Because we've got decades of you making bad decisions to draw upon as evidence that you won't change for very long. In fact, if anything some of the smart moves they made during the 360's days were more the exception than the rule. More often than not they make and manage products like they have their head up their ass.

Considering how they've been whinging and whining about how disappointed they are that gamers are so blind to the future, I don't feel bad sticking with my decision to get a PS4 and not the x-bone. Maybe if they'd stop insulting the gaming community and telling us how wrong we are at every turn I'd have more pity. They don't at all seem to understand the concept that the goal of marketing is to give us reasons to buy and trust in their product, not to tell us we're obligated to do so with no reasons as to why.

There's really nothing stopping Sony from introducing the same features. They had their own online pass system for a while. If there's one thing that's going to convince somebody that it's a good idea to try this again, it's going to be being the only player left in the market. So, no, I'm not going to rush into Sony's open arms expecting them to play the savior when I've got every bit as much reason to be wary of them.

It would be nice if Don Mattrick got a transfer to Microsoft's janitorial services devision, though.

It's always about the games. Well, that DRM was pretty bad though. Microsoft doesn't have any 1st-party games I ever care about so there's no point in buying a Microsoft console unless I just love Halo, Gears (which can go multiplatform), and Forza. The WiiU with Bayonetta 2 and that other Platinum game already has me more interested. Even Sony has had more to offer with their own shooters; Sony has Resistance, Killzone, SOCOM, MAG, Uncharted, and probably a few others that I can't think of (hell, inFamous is basically a shooter too, you just shoot lightning instead of bullets).

I clicked other because I'm not interested in getting a console regardless.

I do see Microsoft slowly reintroducing things over time, trying to see what they can put in without tripping alarm bells, nudging people closer to the model they wanted at the start, so when they take a crack at it again with the XBox 360-1 or whatever the call the next one, it draws less fire since "It's not that different than what we already have."

I don't understand why anyone trusts MS (or any company for that matter) in the first place, MS made it's billions by screwing people over and forcing a monopoly on OSes they invented timed exclusives and had a failurerate possibly as high as 68% with the 360 and are constantly caught in lies and cover ups and who knows what they actually get away with. Trust a company (something which exists just to make money) is never a good idea but if you are going to trust one MS should be one of the last ones you do.

They tried to put those requirements in the first place, saying it was "the future". There's no way they'll not try again, only this time they'll be much sneakier about it and wait until that debacle has faded from memory. So yeah, I don't trust them, so no Xbone for me. Oh, and the Kinect is also a deal breaker, but less so.

It's not like it would be the first time Microsoft fucked over their established users. The xbox did not launch with dashboard ads, they added that later

Was getting it before they changed their mind and still getting it now.

It's going to get the games I want and my friends are getting it, the other consoles have nothing of interest for me.

In my opinion nothing was wrong with it before the internet whined them into submission, I don't sell my games or buy used ones and I'm always connected to the internet right now anyways.

So I'm sad that the whiners made them remove the family sharing.

EDIT: It's also called Xbox One, not Xbone, get it right people.

sorry i don't trust them to not reverse everything slowly after everyone who would buy an xbone got one.
Though i have the same reservations about the PS4, so i'm gonna wait until next year to buy a next gen console.

No it's the Xbone since it bones anyone who buys it lol. Anyways the family share thing was just a glorified demo service and your welcome for not letting MS take away your consumer rights. Also the games you want for it are probably timed exclusive and if you were smart you'd talk your friends out of getting an xbone unless they like getting xboned.

Agreed. They've been acting very petulant about the decision, and some of their more dedicated supporters cannot or will not grasp that people had some very legitimate, logical concerns about the bevy of new restrictions on the platform at the time.

As far as I can tell, Microsoft has NO RIGHT to complain about gamers being pissed off.

Microsoft were the ones being intentionally vague, confusing and even contradicting about the Xbone's restrictions and features; while constantly deflecting logical questions with useless babble about "The future! Inter-connectivity! Community! THE MAGICAL CLOUD!" or whatever 2 dollar buzzword sounded like a great strawman at the time.

I didn't trust M$ going in, and given how they've behaved I definitely do not trust them now.

Let me make this as clear as crystal.
MICROSOFT AND MICROSOFT ALONE MADE THAT DECISION.
NOBODY FORCED OR MADE MICROSOFT REMOVE THAT FEATURE.

It was ENTIRELY in their power to ignore consumer feedback/complaints and push ahead with what they wanted.

I had planned to get an Xbox One a 6 months to a year after it launched when their DRM stuff was up. With it removed, I may move up the purchase date, but the PS4 will be my primary console for this gen. Their exclusives are more interesting to me (as of the current info/date) and I have issues with the kinect being always on, as I never use the thing.

I think Xbox One still has some good things to give though, and I hope they fire their marketing department and hire people who understand how to talk to the public.
