So like I said, my Xbox broke a few weeks ago. I haven't really been gaming too much anyways and was wondering if you guys think that I should not replace my xbox, or just start playing things on the pc. I've haven't really played much on my pc since the last civ, minecraft (which I still pick up from time to time) and WoW. My PCs a few years old and played wow smoothly at medium graphics, but had trouble with high. And the only games I care about playing in the future which aren't on the wii (which I have) are skyrim, mass effect 3, and Arkham city, which will all be on pc. Thanks for the help. Also do these games let you use the gamepads that you can buy for PC? -Hollock

You may aswell go for using the PC.

Regarding the gamepads, you could use a wired Xbox controller for Arkham City, most likely Skyrim and i'm not sure about ME3 but probably.

You can get a pretty good gaming pc for a pretty low price these days, so it'll serve you better in the long run. :)

It depends, are the new 360s less prone to breaking?
I know that at one point they had a 50% fail rate but I would've hoped the slim changed that.

I know that as a ps3 owner, if my ps3 broke, I probably wouldn't replace it at this point and just go with my PC. However, it might be different with the 360 because the devs build their games on the 360 so it tends to get the best versions of whatever games are released while the pc & ps3 get some of the crappiest ports ever made.

But if the 360 slim isn't that much more stable than the older ones, I'd say drop it. The PC may get crappy ports but at least the modders (if not the devs) usually try to fix them up... you just have to wait a couple of months after launch. No modders can make the 360 non-self-destructive for free.

I'm just curious what is actually wrong with your X Box? Because it might be worth trying to get Microsoft to send you a new one. Mine had an S7 I think it was error about a year ago and they sent me a new one for free. I guess it really depends on how many games you have for your X-Box, how many X Box Live arcade games you have, and how many of your friends are on X-Box Live. The new X-Boxes seem pretty nice since they have a bigger hard drive and more usb ports. Though for the same price you can get a pretty decent graphics card.

PC all the way! get steam, save gratuitous sums of money on games by waiting for their x-mas and summer sales.
almost all games have wired controller compatibility so if thats how you really wanna play you can. But only reason to is if the developers did a bad port.

Why not both? its not like PC gaming is as wallet burningly expensive as it used to be, and with a little shouting and requesting to talk to managers, the Xbox people can (and have in my case) be convinced to replace bricked systems long after the warranty is actually expired. Seriously, I argued a case based largely on moon logic and they bought my theory that warranties should stack when in reality they don't :D

So yea, try just being an obnoxious customer and see if you can forcibly get them to give you a new system like I did. Its not impossible. And even if that fails, games on steam are usually cheep enough you could do both (assuming you already have a computer).

You can buy a wireless adapter and use the xbox controller(s) with your PC:

http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-Wireless-Gaming-Receiver-Windows-Pc/dp/B000HZFCT2

Just focusing on controls, PC versions tend to involve more initial setup but also more customizability. For example, neither of Mass Effect 1&2 work with a controller by default, you have to use a third party program like JoytoKey, xpadder, or pinnacle profiler to map button presses to the keyboard. That said, after putting in the effort to set things up, the controls on PC are generally better (for example more hotkeys for powers in ME2).

Oblivion did not support controllers on the PC, but Fallout 3 did. After a few hours with Fallout 3 I turned off in-game controller support and switched to using pinnacle profiler so that I could have more customization (like putting an auto-run key on the controller). What I'm saying is that 9 out of 10 PC games take some effort to play with a controller, but the end result is usually good.

Just throwing it out there, Yes the 360 slim is more durable than the base model. I had a 2006 model and replaced it almost once a year, then I traded it in for a slim and even with heavy use it has shown none of the problems the old one did.

Also, I've noticed most games look A LOT BETTER on the Slim, I don't know if its just the HDMI cable on it, but Mass Effect looked like a whole new game when I played it again on my new system, even newer games like Reach or Black Ops look markedly better.

Hate to sound like a fanboy, but the upgrade really tickled my innards with how much better it is... so yea

That is for wireless controllers. Just shove in an AMD Radeon 6970 (Same price as an xbox) and I guarantee you will be able to play anything your xbox can play 2 times faster.

This console generation is coming to a close and there's no guarantee of backward compatibility in the next generation, so for now I would say stick with PC if your PC has a decent amount of RAM and a good graphics card.

I'd 2nd the upgrade your PC with the XBOX money. You'll definitely end up with much better performance/graphics. Maybe throw a GTX 560 ti (I have the 560 ti and it's a fantastic card). http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125401

Just make sure your motherboard is PCI-e 2.0 compatible, which I would assume it is. This thing will rock the hell out of most games out and coming out.

If you don't mind giving up the Xbox community and your P.C can handle it then switch to P.C. I also suggest buying Fallout 3 or New Vegas. Lot's of mod support.
