I was marathoning the Firefly series once, and when I got to "Heart of Gold" I shed a tear (would've shed more if it wasn't so short and if I wasn't in my dorm's lounge watching it).

It was during that scene when Inara weeps after finding that Mal slept with the ex-companion who ran the bordello.

I honestly can say that I've never even met a person who were not able to feel true emotions from an entertainment medium.

Now here is the other question though. Are those emotions every bit as valid as those that come from real life experiences, or are they lessened because they are the gained through observation?

Supposing you really out your mind into them, they are just as valid.
