Poll: Napolean: Total War: First Unoriginal Thread

I'm very bored at the moment, and am saving my money for Napolean Total War, which will be coming to us 23rd of February (2010).

Because I lack originality, I decided to make a "Who will be buying Napolean this year thread"

Sorry about the incredible lack of originality in this, I'll try and make it up some other time...

I will, although I'm a bit concerned about it, as robbing the Total War series of it's depth simply to make it more streamlined is a very risky maneuver.

It looks promising, but then again so did Timeshift.

Agreed, but I still will buy it. Like you said that, I hope they don't take away the depth, namely, the grand campaign, which was replaced with 2 campaigns of Napoleon's battles and then the campaign to gain mastery of Europe.

No, I will not. After the way Creative Assembly handled Empire: Total War, I sincerely doubt their ability to make a functioning product. Between the braindead AI (which is quite problematic in a singleplayer game), counterintuitive diplomacy, numerous gameplay bugs and the fact that to get any variety in units you need to pay for DLC, all the good things about Empire fall somewhat to the side.

Now they are dumbing the whole thing down even further and packaging it off as a series of mini-campaigns instead of fixing the original game and/or providing a decent campaign experience.

Why in the world would I want to buy it? Why would anyone who isn't overly interested in that historical period buy it?

Creative Assembly straddled the line of trust with Medieval 2. But they fixed it up nicely, it still isn't a perfect game but the patches at least made it feel solid enough that it is an enjoyable experience anyway.
Then along came Empire. It was released in what can best be described as a pre-beta stage. The bugs were numerous, gamebreaking and often so obvious and occured on so many systems that you'd think that even a five hour beta-test would have seen most of them coming. She was patched a few times, but Empire is still a buggy mess that at best is barely playable and at worst has you tearing your hair because of all the bugs and the flimsy AI.

Creative Assembly has lost my trust and even if Napolean might have fixed many of the bugs that plagued Empire, I will not buy it. Between Napolean and Heavy Rain, this time I am taking my chance with the modern french visionaries.

No because ti seems a lot like a themed version of empire:total war and i know its cheaper but it doesn't seem like a proper step forward.

I love the Total War series (until I get bored from playing them). Perhaps Empire: Total War was bugged and whatnot, but to be honest, I had so much fun playing it.

I'm sure I will buy Napoleon: Total War. Perhaps not right away but eventually.

I will because I'm an idiot. Even though Empire was what it is(Bugged and bad AI), I got DarthMod Ultimate Commander and now I just need time to get around playing it more.

Also I want to play War & Peace the Risk version.

But I can't buy it at release as I'm upgrading my PC with new parts and there's ME2(Even thought I don't like ME1...) and Alien Vs Predator coming out too. So I'll buy it, just later. There isn't anything else coming to PC that grabs my attention anyway.

No, because my laptop would probably have troubles running the game, and I am content with Rome: Total War that I got recently.

Nah - I brought the previous games because each iteration brought something considerably new to the play. Sounds like not only does Napoleon bring little new, it also takes a step backwards :/

Eventually, although not right away since I've enough to keep me occupied right now as it is.

I do find it funny however that whenever a new Total War game comes out everyone seems to think it's a new low for the franchise and how every consecutive installment is somehow worse than anything before. People hated Medieval for taking away the 'super units' and fun cinematic from Shogun. When Rome: Total War came out everyone said the move to 3D was crap, and yet now those same people hail it as some sort of divine creation and refuse to hear it called anything less than heavenly. When Medieval 2 came out it was 'the ultimate sellout' and a 'cheap cash in', and yet now it's hailed as another highpoint in the series. I wonder what people will be saying about Empire a game or two from now...

And don't even get me started on the AI. People complain about Empire's AI and say it's worse than Romes.... seriously? Am I the only one who remembers entire armies marching to their deaths when faced with a river in Rome? Archers shooting their own allies in the backs? Soldiers refusing to move when ordered, and AI completely incapable of sieging a fortress nevermind doing even the most absolute basics of diplomacy on the campaign map? That's not to excuse Empire, but seriously, take of the rose-tinted goggles and give Creative Assembly a chance here. Given time and effort they've always turned their games around and made them fan-favorites, even if it always seems to take another entry in the series for people to realize it.
