Alcohol has the advantage of not only opening up the oppurtunity for the unexpected, dangerous, hilarious, catastrophic, in short, somethig *happening*, it also relieves you of the need to do someting the day after.
I don't know how old you are, but the twilight zone between childhood and adulthood can be a lame one indeed, especially if you live in the middle of nowhere. Personally I partied at any oppurtunity (given that there were girls involved), and spent the rest of my time playing games and maxing my grades. grade-maxing can be boring but it's a bit of a grind that makes everyday life alot easier once you actually get out of whatever nowehere-land you are living in at the moment.
And then, ofcourse games. If killing time is your main objective, I'd suggest jumping into an MMO. But then again, you've already tried that. I don't think there are many hidden gems out there, personally I've never found a game that has been worth my time that hasn't been widely discussed in the mainstream media, though of course their almost never qutie as good as most reviews have you believe. While going back through the history of gaming and trying out different classics can be a rewarding experience, I think it is a dead end as main-timekiller, atleast it has always been for me.
If there are no games for you, i'd recommend trying to mix your day up with tv-series, anime (as mentioned), perhaps try and schedule some hours of book-reading each day, get one hour of walking each day, preferably while listening to a course from The Teaching Company (google for info, the ones on chinese and russian history are very good if your interested in history), party if you find some non-retards out there. While strolling by the Isle of Sky or joining the scouts or something might ad a certain to glow to a life where you already have some major project to project your energy at (a career / bachelors-degree / band / etc.), i guess your in the slump of life we call the teens, and they can be quite the drag, RL-equivalent of Desolace, or something.
So pass the time, stay away from heavy drugs and jail. Play an instrument, guitar or something. watch a few episodes of some series before lunch, get lunch, enjoy it, take a walk, have a cup of coffe with your parents for the REP, play some of the dull games for an hour or two, read a book, get dinner, troll some forums, write long posts, fall asleep, rinse and repeat 'till you get out of there. Good luck
