When I was in my early 20's I had a large group of friends that would all hang out on the weekend. Of all my friends only two of us did not take drugs to stay up all weekend...and both of us usually slept about 2 hours a night. It was way to much freaking fun to waste time sleeping back then.....the drugs they took had negative effects for sure....but they STILL took them....so yeah most 20 somethings with friends would probably take it.

Even now at 38 I would probably take it for the extra time to play video games and read books if nothing else. Working etc leaves me very little time each week to play video games 10-20 hours at most and thats only if I have a game I'm playing like Fallout NV that really interests me. If I didn't sleep at all (and I sleep a good 8 hours a day on average) that would add an easy 30 hours I could play...heck I could probably even fit a MMORPG into my life!!

I too like to sleep though...but I think many people are missing a huge side effect (positive) of the pill. If you don't have to sleep you also won't get tired and your cells should naturally replenish throughout the day.

So basically instead of getting worn out as the day progresses you should in theory be as fresh and filled with energy as when you start each day right now.....ALWAYS.

I don't know if your all like me but I get up early (Around 6) and by 4 or 5 i'm already dragging and could easily use a nap. By the time I actually get home and done with everything I need to it's 8-9 and I barely have any energy left to do anything but watch some TV and check online for cool posts (like this) or emails etc.

With the pill in theory we would have as much energy after all that as we did early in the morning.....when I usually am just about dancing around with energy heh. I could get so freaking much done even if I still slept 8 hours if I was at full energy all day long. I didn't used to get tired btw even 5 years ago or so but just having my energy replenish throughout the day would be worth taking the pill for in a second.

Of course there is always the opposite side of the coin question.

Would you take a pill that meant you never had to wake up?

I'd love to be able to cut sleep out of my life. I'd like to be able to meditate deeply though - I get bored of being awake and sleep resets that, but I dislike the constant nightmares, so I'd like to be able to just drowse for an hour or two and get it out of my system.

I can't imagine there being no psychological side effects, so I think I'd pass. My sporadic sleep cycle scares me some (It doesn't actually scare me, but alliterative roll I was on). in short, I think it'd drive me mad, at least in time.

I don't just sleep for the purpose of restoring my mind and body, it also makes me feel relaxed, and I think that would probably be a big problem (Even if I could sleep, the lack of imperative to do so might alter things).

If I took the drug, I would tell NOBODY. I don't want a bunch of people expecting me to be extra-productive. :p

I love sleeping, but then again I resent the fact that I need to. I wouldn't mind not sleeping as long as there's no side effects whatsoever, but I would miss being able to.

I would take it because I am in high school, do online college work, have high school homework, and make youtube vids. If I do not make the youtube vids my fans beg me to make more. So with all this I have to much to do and not enough time to sleep which causes me to sleep in classes which causes people to make fun of me and gets me in trouble. So not having to sleep would actually help with everything that I have to do. Oh before people ask me how I had time to write this it is because I am off for Thanksgiving break right now.

I remember learning about a comic book a few weeks ago where a guy takes a drug that completely eliminates his need to sleep with no side effects.
I started thinking, keep in mind I'm a college student, that would be so cool. We spend 25 percent of our lives asleep. It would add years to our lives! We could accomplish everything we always wanted to in less time.
I would take this drug. Would you? Feel free to elaborate.
1. we spend 33% of our lives in sleep, not 25%. unelss you sleep only 6 hours, to which i congratulate you.
secondly, who wouldnt want to add 8 hours a day extra? who cna be so stupid to want to sleep when oen can avoid it?

No for a number of reasons. One I get bored in my usual routine never mind not sleeping at all, so imagine staying up late into the night where everywhere is closed and there is nothing on T.V, I mean T.V is shite at the best of times but it's awful at night. I suppose I could go on the internet but most people would be sleeping anyway, so what's the point? You'd probably just be bored, really, really bored most of the time or you'd end up working longer hours and who wants to do that?

Would I still be able to go to sleep if I wanted to? Because if it means no more lucid dreaming then I'm staying far, far away from that drug.

Well I'd use the rest of the time playing games, cleaning and will most likely spend most of it doing exercise. I love walking around at night, would be great to have night time jogs.
