What do you think of The Escapist introducing a user submitted art board? A board where users can submit their created games, music, writing, etc., etc., and even advertise for help in creating their latest project. I for one would love such a board. I'm a writer and have been looking into becoming a video game designer on the small scale and see it is a great opportunity to share, discuss and help develop both the gaming and broader arts community. Obviously this site isn't DeviantArt or the such, but with our beloved Escapist's terrific emphasis on advancing and expanding the video game life-style, this seems a perfect fit. Indie devs., writers, designers, poets and those seeking inspiration could come together and exchange ideas to help one another grow.

What do you think?

Interesting, but why does the quote "No John, you ARE the demons." spring to mind?

Lol. I suppose fanfiction would be included in said forum.

I think this board could only benefit from subforums.
The art board, you mean? I would agree 100% One for games, one for writing and poetry, another for fanfics maybe, one for videos. Stuff like that.

This site does not allow 'Advertising' (Posting the content of your own webpages on this site), and for the most part, that's what I usually see when someone brings up 'art' submissions.

Not that I agree with the policy, only that the policy doesn't agree with your idea.

Yeah, call it "user created content" or something. Hell, hold competitions and stuff within it too.
Oh, I like that idea! Community judged competitions once a month or something. Maybe even a unique badge or two handed out on occasion for it.

I wouldn't see it as a "post your website with your game" sort of deal. More like, posting a picture you made, a poem you wrote or a Youtube video of your game in action. Ask people to PM you if they are interested in working with you in the case of indie video games.

It is a brilliant idea. However it is one that I sadly will not be a part of. Since all of my work is unfinished (also all notes are in my head, and not copyrighted) it is dangerous to speak of my work. For others it is neat; however, I can see The Escapist putting strict rules down, which would only force some of our budding artist towards DeviantArt or other places anyways. Also you may as well put down a Subforum for Minecraft and the like as well, it only makes sense since it can't really fit in any other catagory, and it is considered art (at least it does for me :3).

What I'm saying is that a large number of 'user content' post I see here are technically advertising (And therefor against the rules). And I don't think the mods here feel like making a board that going to be littered with advertising.

As for making video games, that's done in the Job Forums.

Intriguing. This would boost the popularity of the Escapist. Not to mention all of the escapist who already would like an art board.

Brilliant Idea.

You make good points. It would definitely have to be more of an amateur sort of deal. But people steal other's ideas anyway, even when copywrited :p

Due to a disability of sorts I'm home 24/7, so I'd be happy to strictly moderate the forum for said rules. I can agree that advertising could happen, but I think the benefits if successful would outweigh the dangers.

It would be pretty cool to bring all the Escapists who use other forums like DeviantArt back together on here. I can see it being really fun.

At first I was like, Wuuuut.
Then I was like, Hmmmmm.
And now I'm like, Ahhhh.

That would be an awesome idea, but I can see why it would sort of disagree with the whole policy a bit. Then again what's there to lose?
I'd be all for it, but I can't say the same for the rest of the site.

You've got a couple thousand post to go (All with no suspensions and probations) before you can swing that one.

And, to be honest, I can't see how this would make the Escapist more popular, or increase content. There are hundreds of sites for this sort of thing. I can't quote exactly, but someone brought up this point when people were roaring for an anime board:

Someone or another said:
If people want an Anime forum, then they need to go to an Anime message board.
Same applies here. Plus the whole 'magnet for advertisers' thing.

/shrug But, hey, if you want to give it a swing, go ask SpinWhiz. Couldn't hurt.

I think so long as the rules are laid out in plain view and it is made obvious that any form of outside advertising will result in swift action and the removal of all your content, it could work out nicely. I see a lot of honest people posting a pic or two, some poems, a video they made, a song they've been messing around with and getting some fun response and feedback.

I don't think the Escapist is about promoting other peoples property. It's about promoting the 'art' of those chosen by the website.

If the site decides 'you have what it takes', they will add you to the mix. I don't want this site to become a free for all of user content.

Look to this to see what I mean: http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/miracle-of-sound/3146-Wheatleys-Song-Portal-2

Miracle is a perfect example of what this website can offer to creative minds.

Don't make this site a cesspool of user fanfiction/art please. It's fine the way it is, in my opinion anyway.
So long as it is all kept in a self-contained forum, you'd never have to peek in if you didn't want. Sort of like how I stay far, far, far away from the religion and politics board, lol.

Go to Deviant Art if you want a free for all, why muck up this site?
Would you say the same for the off-topic discussion forum? The religion and politics forum?

I see a forum for the exchange and sharing of art and ideas to be more relevant to this site's ideals than either of the aforementioned.

But you are of course welcome to disagree.

I certainly wouldn't ever browse it.

Link it on your books of face or maybe do that twitter with the rest of the deviant artists? Ya damn whippersnappers and yer music
