It seems to me in the past month or two there have been a lot more people joining our marvelous community. I don't know if this is just that I haven't been paying proper attention before that or there has been a definitive increase in people joining but it freaks me out a bit. Some people I recognize who have joined relatively recently are overtaking me exceptionally fast on post count. I guess it depends if you measure your worth as a person by your post count or not as to whether you care about this or not but it kinda weirds me out. Of course I'm all for new faces but it feels like this little internet club we've got is getting a little less exclusive... I'm off to become a freemason now I guess...

Maybe there are.
But is that a bad thing?
And don't worry about people who post a lot.
It's just that they don't have much else to do, and view this as a safe haven where they can babble. And they obviously have no lives.
...hold on a tic...

Anyway! If you're not posting 50 times a day, that's fine.
Different people have different behavior online.
Just welcome the new people, and offer help if they ask.

If every person has a pre-determined awesome level then the law of averages states that the more people join the higher our chances of getting the most awesome people.

I haven't really noticed a spike in new members myself.

As for my opinion on them, I'm OK with them as I was one.

That is possibly the most awesome perspective ever...

But when I was new I hit Gonzo within a week... Oh wait, no life.

When I see a new user I merely think over-used internet lingo, over-relaxed typing and grammer, Pictures the size of the Berlin Wall being posted without spoilers and other things.
Not a bad thing to have new blood in here, if you don't like them just try to remember what it was like to be new, then Ignore the thought and murder them in their homes while they sleep Realize that they pose no threat and pretend they don't exist until they are no longer new.

as it stands you can still see the date at which they joined with seperates the senior members from the juniors

edit:i think the date i joined is wrong...i joined sometime before last christmas but it says that i joined in 09......what the hell?

You think you're paranoid about being overtaken in post count.... Puh! I spit on your petty issues!

Hehehe...
You mean me?
Yeah... insomnia plus forum games will do that to you...

Anyway.
I have indeed seen a spike in new users.
Though, I found more of them joined in September than anytime else, lately.
And a lot of them sadden me.
A lot of them are using msn grammar and aren't taking their posts seriously.

Being new is no excuse.
They should have been like me and lurked for half a year.
Then they'd fit in right away.

There's nothing wrong with most new users...
Though, I've found that there have been a few too many lately in my opinion.
I just wish they'd do more research before posting.
Like, you know, citizenship tests immigrants have to study for? If they had to study the community like that, sort of.
It'd solve a lot of problems.

If you lurked for half a year then in a sense you aren't new, they on the other hand saw the greatness of other users (Obviously missing my posts) and decided to jump right in. If they are truly terrible then their going to find out at one point, or are those grammar nazis I screwed around with my during new time here for nothing? I myself recently taught someone about spoilers and saw results. Rather than Complain, teach the newcomers.

If nothing else make examples of them to teach others to lurk before joining, since you believe it's the only way to be an acceptable newcomer.

...Why do I get the feeling you're lecturing me?
I wasn't... complaining, per se.
I have helped the new people.
I have taught people how to embed youtube videos, and how to spoiler tag things.
I have also pointed many people to Wilson's BBcode thread (which is sadly rather out of date now, with it being almost two years old). [for future reference, a more or less complete bbcode guide can be found in the news items in the E-Team user group.]

It's just I've seen too many new people adding nothing to the discussion whilst also using minimal posts. Such as, in a thread I saw today about something or other, the OP mentioned that he was Swedish, and a new person did nothing but post 'yeah swedees!'
I wasn't logged in at the time, otherwise I'd probably have mentioned something to him to make sure he stays away from trouble in the future for something like that.

You're all new *waves walking stick* damned kids -_-

Haha, there seems to have been a larger addition to the site this month, I couldn't tell you why, and so long as standards are upheld nor do I really mind.

However, mods aside, I dare you to find someone that's been here and still actively posting longer than myself.

Good to hear.
I remember that post, didn't pay it much mind, wish I did now, interesting topic though.
I'll also take it that the E-team reference is directed at everyone else, right?

To which post are you referring?
And yes, the E-Team reference is open for everybody.
They try to help answer any computer or internet related questions you have.
(Not affiliated with the official Tech Team we have here, though.)

I don't mind them. Some will be good new additions to the Escapist Community, some will not. We'll find out soon enough.
