I think it's a cool concept. It would also be neat to see a mechanic where if you're bitten you have to decide:
Do you hide it from your teammates?
If it happens while they're around do they turn on you? Actually no, that wouldn't work because without any real life morality issues it would be easy to just go and cap some dude if they're a threat.

It'd be great if it was actually possible. Now, I'm not saying it couldn't ever happen, but do you really think no one sitting at a brainstorm session for one of the many gaming companies never thought of something similar? The problem is that in a virtual world, if you want to do something, the person who created the game probably had to think of that thing before you did, so that they could program it in. To create something like what you're talking about, well, the resources necessary, time, money, and programmers would be rediculous. Maybe someday, but don't expect to see something like that anytime soon.
This rings true, except the someday part. Big companies put so much resource into polishing cinematic graphics and such, and now we're getting really linear 5 hour games.
I wish some company would have the balls to realize that games were still fun when graphics weren't as good and go back to a simpler game engine with a big concept in mind.
Case in point, I'm playing Deus Ex right now, and am amazed at the multiple ways you can tackle each mission.
You don't get that in games with bitchin' graphics anymore.
But I digress, that was a bit of a tangent...

I say could be good with a bit of tweaking.

The reason i want a one hit kill is for the challenge and the zombies move slow you don't have to fight them you can always run

You're not the first to think up this idea: I think each and every single person who's ever read World War Z or the Zombie Survival Guide has wanted a game like that. At one point Irrational games started working on a game which was exactly that using the SWAT 4 engine, it was canceled unfortunately and the studio went on the make a little known game called Bioshock before being bought up by a giant mega-corporation. Pity that!

[your vid's been snipped]

A pity... I'm actually not sure which I'd rather have.

Yep, definitely zombies, as that would have more gameplay life.

Why not just allow for multiple difficulty modes? It allows for satisfaction on all ends. Also as for your 'big city', Beijing works well :p.

Go look up The Last Stand. It has somewhat what you are asaying. Granted its a flash game online but you still have to gather supplies to move from town to town and make it to the last city(The Last Stand 2) in the first one you have to live for a certain amount of days before you are rescued. During your travels you gather supplies fix your defense and meet other survivors.

Thats partially what gave me the idea and to answer someone elses question no I lack the resources to make such a game

Sounds like a cross between Fallout and Left 4 Dead..... Which would be friggin' sweet!
Actually it sounds more like a cross between Harvest Moon (or Farmville) and Left 4 Dead. It probably wouldn't work because the cross over between those two demographics is rather small.

That sounds fairly similar to an idea I posted in an earlier topic.

<spoiler=The post, if anybody cares. It's six days old. :^P>
A game with the first person viewpoint of Mirror's Edge, the map size a few times that of Fallout 3 (except with all of those damned Metro tunnels in the DC area) with you in the middle of a zombie apocalypse (hooray!) and you have to rally up survivors and escape the city. You have a reasonably large time limit and it supports 16-player co-op where everyone starts in faraway areas and can choose to split up and search for supplies to keep themselves alive or can group together, which can attract more attention.

You can find abandoned areas such as supermarkets and combine food items for temporary bonus effects (faster running speed, silent footsteps when walking etc). You can find various articles of clothing from stores such as jackets from common stores or chainmail from medieval stores to protect against bites.

There would be multiplayer modes that pit you against other people to survive for as long as possible and you have the option to contaminate food items for other survivors to eat and infect themselves with or take them for yourself. If you die as a result of an infection rather than bullets, you respawn as an Infected to ruin the Survivors chances of staying alive.

You can level up to 50 and pick various perks Fallout 3 style that passively affect your character or other things more directly such as damage intake and output, movement, time between infection and reanimation etc.

Basically, a stealth based first person RPG. *passes out*

I think it's be interesting to see and it'd create a unique sense of tension that hasn't been used before.

Could use a little tweaking, but I think it'd work.

An open world game like this sounds good - maybe not one hit kill as said above but I definitely think a game where the player strategically sneaks around, making an actual decision whether to enter combat or not, that is, combat is something to fear and be weary of rather than seek out like in most zombie type games(e.g.L4D).
Although like all sandbox games I feel there needs to be an ultimate goal available to the player (perhaps with an RPG influence?) to keep you interested.

So the basic idea is a realistic zombie sandbox game? Well, while a lot of componants of the idea are good, you wouldn't want it to be realistic enough where one zombie bite kills you and such. Maybe that would be fine on the most difficult setting, but it shouldn't be forced. Plus, if it was really realistic in a big city, you'd stand almost no chance. Ammo would be impossible to find before long, zombies hordes would be hard to kill without letting them hit you, and the fact that the other survivers are more likely to kill you then help you.

Im pretty sure this hasn't been done before if it has please correct me.

What if someone made a hyper realistic zombie horror survival game where you had to find your own safe house make your own food gather your own supplies and meet other survivors in a gigantic town suck as New York. A zombie could kill you in one bite and they could only be kill be destroying the brain. You would have to survive for either a set amount of days or gather certain supplies to make some sort of make shift getaway. You would have to garden and hunt for your own food decide whether or not to kill fellow survivors for supplies or work together. Overall you would have to think of everything to survive in this game like making a trap or wake up call when you are sleeping and stuff like that.

I just want to know what you guys think of this idea please leave ideas. Constructive criticism is appreciated
Are you thinking along the lines of an MMORPG? Or more a Fallout style game with co-op (limited to 4 or so players)?

This is an interesting concept though - I like it :)

The idea of players choosing whether to help each other or not reminds me of what I've read about F.E.A.R. 3 - players working in co-op however they both have different objectives, and have to weigh up whether working together is the best choice for a given situation.

I think this more intellectual approach to a zombie apocalypse would prove very popular, as games like Left 4 Dead pursue a really arcade-style gameplay, and your idea would fulfil a gap in the genre.

So - well done! :D

Multiplayer, solo, on-line coop... It rings a bell in my ear.
Gather supplies, guns, shelter and people...

A survival game, at the best. But I can't see it happening anytime soon though.
There's so much to be done for it to happen.

I don't think it'd work outside of modes, if you want a persistent universe however that changes over time then you'd have to incorporate a way for them to be immune to the Zombie Virus, figure a free class system and how to get them to resurrect.

The game would work better that way, if you ask me. Setting up scouts to wander around, have crafters to build defenses, make a barracks to supply and provide buffs to the main force to clear out and expand. The game would work wonderfully as a PvP system of raiding other "Communities" for supplies or just because.

Or you can create an intelligent zombie as a race and have players play them against the humans. Their free class system could be along the lines of Mutation and choosing the path they wish to take. Either way, there's a lot of promise with this game as there was with Division 9.

Speaking of which...

... yeah... I really hope the guy that said "We don't see zombies becoming big." got fired, flayed, and flambeed. That game would have been the biggest hit.

I've played a PnP version of this with the various supplements of 'All Flesh Must be Eaten'.

From a videogame perspective though it may be difficult to pull off. Not just from the initial investment perspective but as others have mentioned, the (perceived?) small buyer demographic for a game that combines fast twitch zombie killing with resource gathering.
