I don't see what the problem is at all.
This isn't a vanilla TF2 update, it's a plugin. If TF2 players can make mods to turn all the characters into furries and make dispensers sound like Portal turrets, they can make a F2P filter. In addition, the elitist punks that think F2P=Noob can freely go use a filtered server. That just means there's less of them on the F2P-allowed servers.
So do I like the plugin idea? Yeah, it means the people that complain about F2P ruining TF2 have no reason to be near said F2P players. That's great! Less arguments, more ruthless killing! Erm, gameplay!

Moreover, if you COULD get on a server where people hate F2P players enough to establish a filter against them, would you? I think an insta-kick beats getting constantly insulted and considered a lesser being by my own teammates.

Some of us have actually PAID for TF2, but just didn't buy the PC version. I own in for the 360 and downloaded TF2 on Steam when it went F2P because I don't want to pay for the same game TWICE for two systems. I own it on the Orange Box for the 360 and now I own it on Steam. What is truly the definition of a F2P player?

I'll tell you. A F2P player is someone who's getting undeserved crap for downloading a game for free when the makers of that game wanted people to have it for free. This plugin is absolute crap and just shows how stupid people who bought the game on Steam before this F2P update are becoming. They think that they are the only ones who deserve to be playing TF2 because they paid for it on Steam. I paid for it in a store. With Portal and Half Life 2 - Half Life 2 Episode 2. I just downloaded it for my PC when it went free so as not to waste money buying the same game twice just with more features. So I still bought the game, I'm just someone who now owns two copies. One I paid for and one I didn't have to.

The point?

Elitists are stupid, entitled pricks who are just trying to wreck the game they love so much by trying to get people to stop playing.

i agree with this because 1. F2P people are stupid and annoying to play with
2.I'd rather play with people that have invested in TF2 why because they are less likely to ruin the game for others knowing that they money for it aswell
3.personally F2P people has done nothing for the other players. all they do is piss on the other players
4.its optional

Oh that's just lovely... No, no it isn't, it's disgusting.

Each and every player starts off as a noob, you can't just go treating them as vermin while forgetting that you were once exactly the same, that's just disgraceful.

I don't care...If people host their own servers they should be free to boot whomever they want. I regularly host online games between me and a select few of friends, anyone else who joins is liable to be kicked for not good reason, and I fail to see how an irrelevant reason is any worse than none at all.

Everyone was new at some point. F2P players are just new. Give them time and they'll get better. Whether or not they paid for the damn game or not doesn't reflect ACTUAL SKILL. That'd be like in order to cook you'd need to buy an extra cereal bowl. IT MAKES NO SENSE.

Personally, I don't see what YOU'RE doing for the other players. What are YOU doing that F2P players aren't? They play, you play. Difference? THEY'RE NEW.

I approve of the plugin. Lately I've found the free to players insufferable. Doing incredibly stupid stuff, constantly going afk, asking to trade on non-trade servers, disgusting sprays (though I guess that's a staple online) mic spamming and just generally being a nuiscance.
Really? I've been playing since '07 and it's always been like that. Counter Strike is much the same way. In fact, play Garry's Mod for a few minutes and you'll find that those things you listed are the entire gameplay experience. Well, sans the trading. This is PC gaming, home of griefing, hacking, and generally being insufferable on the internet. All hail the master race.

F2P players are just a convenient scapegoat that people are using so they can ***** about all the problems PC gaming has always had. It's not like Team Fortress 2 is hard to understand or difficult to get into. The Scout runs, The Pyro lights things on fire, The Engineer camps, and The Spy pisses everyone off. In fact, there seems to be this assumption that new TF2 players are also new PC gaming players, and that is not the case. Chances are, there are only 3 groups playing:
-People who paid 20 bucks before F2P got implemented.
-People who never bothered to shell out 20 bucks for this game and stuck to things like Crysis, Counter-Strike, Tremulous, The Ship, Unreal Tournament, and the multitude of other First Person Shooters on the PC
-People who would normally be in the second group, but got upgraded to paid status after buying a hat or gun in the store.

Oh look. People are offended on the internet due to other people being elitist jerks.

Also, rofl, I'm sorry to say for those that don't think otherwise but this isn't 'racism, prejudist evil, zomg hitler call 911'. It's a game. They also paid for the servers so if they feel like it, yes indeed, you won't be playing on their servers. Their loss. ... Or not.

F2P player
Does that refer to people who started playing after the game became F2P, or people who haven't got premium accounts?
how can you have had the game before it was free and not have a premium account...

I agree with you, I feel like people are taking this a bit too seriously.
I was glad that they made it free, because I own the orange box as well, and I enjoy playing TF2 on the computer more then I do on my 360.

It's fine because the server is not owned by valve, it's 3rd party owned and run they can do what they want with what they pay for. It's really hard to argue that.

This is like that goofy argument I keep hearing where people are upset someone will turn off options for guns in other games and I just respond "so...play another server". Which is what free to play players should do if they run into a server like that.

Sounds fine with me. Servers are private entities, and thus they can choose to restrict whoever they want. There are even national servers out there who restrict players to said nation or language, so why should restricting F2P players be any different?

Sounds like shitty admining to be honest. I'd rather have a server full of F2P's that are up for a laugh, don't take it too seriously and are playing for fun, than a server full of butthurt veterans who call hax every time you kill them.

As a side note, anyone struggling to find a server is welcome on the Escapist servers, we're over on The Escapist TF2 Group [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/groups/chat/The-Escapist-Team-Fortress-2-Group-PC] , click the links in the description and you'll join the server automatically.

If Valve won't do anything about the servers which give users premium benefits like unsappable sentries and cloaking on snipers, then they can't try and stop this without some serious backlash.

I'm fine with it, I mean if you want to have a server with a certain group of people you can put a password on it. Which acts in a similar way to this plugin in that it keeps some people out and lets others in. The only difference is that the outside group is determined by what they paid(or rather didn't pay) for the game. Not a big deal as there will always be more servers that are open to everyone, and if there aren't... you can always host your own for fairly cheap.

I don't play TF2 that often, but when I do I don't wanna have to deal with the potential irritations that I've heard some if not all F2P have been bringing to games...so yeah I support it.

They pay for the servers, they can do whatever they want with them. That includes not letting F2P players join.

Also, the poll options are too strict. I don't like or dislike the plugin, but I support server owners' rights to using the plugin.

Friendliest online community my jingleballs from the sounds of it.

I've made a point of unequipping any hats and items so I play with "naked" characters and have fun making people rage when they think i'm f2p.

And if I'm doing well, I say stuff like "wow this game is really easy" and "heh, only took me about an hour to learn this game!", it's easy to get people's nickers in a twist in tf2.
