Poll: New TF2 server plugin kicks F2P players

I guess it will be nice for trading servers, where F2P players cannot trade, other than that, It's kind of a dick move, sure. But it's their server, and I suppose VALVe can't really do anything about it.

I want to start playing TF2 and tbh this puts me of if most servers could have this, I would like to think that i wouldn't be considered a 'n00b' but non-the-less I imagine i will being seeing it alot soon.

Don't be discouraged. If you're anyway like me and aren't bothered looking through lists and lists of servers just join random servers. Most of the time you land in public, Valve-run servers, but occasionally you land in a dedicated server. Honestly, I don't really notice the difference between dedicated and public except for a few handy User Interface plugins and that there is generally more communication on dedicated servers. Besides, in a way it's useful: would you rather join a server full of elitist pricks or join a non-discriminatory server?

Try it out. It takes a bit of getting used to, but it's great fun. Just do the tutorial and practice with bots until you feel comfortable. There are also loads of helpful tutorials on the internet, particularly video tutorials on youtube. Also, from what I hear the Escapist TF2 server is incredibly friendly for the most part. It's free, so no harm in trying. Also, the Coaching feature makes it easier for friendly Premium members to help out new players. OT: I think these people are pricks. If you want to discriminate against us F2P 'plebs' (BTW, I bought TF2 in the Orange Box on the 360, so I have a bit of prior experience) be my guest. I'd rather be repelled from servers full of elitist asshats. Speaking of asshats, admins and members of these servers should be awarded a special ass-shaped hat to show people that their elitist pricks to be avoided.

The thing about server mods is that Valve doesn't decide on how they function.

Some servers may have it, but others won't. No one will be hurt by this.

Their playground - their rules. Dedicated servers are not "public good", it's private property and the admins can enforce any rules they desire. If they want to make a server only for 25 year old, white males with names starting with letter A J and T it's their right to do so because they pay for that server.
It's not like you have to play on their servers to begin with, plenty of others available.

Im a veteran (07 when I picked this up) and I try to be understanding with them, but half the team going snipers and using smg's can get very outright annoying. I do hope this plug in goes into effect, I for one will be happy.

I have been playing for years and when that halo shit happened I didn't even notice. I don't think that this will cause much of an issue either. Most people who play are not asshats. It is a small minority that would use this type of thing. People have been making password protected servers for ages and using them for scriming and other serious competative play so I recon that this script will just be an extension to that type of thing. There is the ability to save servers into your favourits, use it.

Technically nothing we can do about it but Valve could force people not to be assholes. Something I hope they do just to spite the type of people who think they need to just have a massive generalizing script like that.

Seriously, with people that quick to condemn I bet they're the type of people who complain about how TF2 has been ruined since the class updates.

I don't like it and won't play on any server that uses it (I paid for TF2 and have been playing for a while).

It's annoying and continues the trend of obnoxious PC elitists who really need to relearn the value of fun in gaming.

That said- it's their server, they can do what they want on it. They are free to be as big a group of ignorant, elitist howler monkeys they want to be.

People need to stop bitching about the Free 2 Play players. Premium players get allot more out of game benefits than what the free players get. There is no actual gameplay difference between the 2 player types.

I approve of the plugin. Lately I've found the free to players insufferable. Doing incredibly stupid stuff, constantly going afk, asking to trade on non-trade servers, disgusting sprays (though I guess that's a staple online) mic spamming and just generally being a nuiscance.

Sounds like a normal TF2 server.

It's pretty silly, the only problem I have with the free to play guys is it has become impossible to join my regular servers, but that problem should even out in a month or so. Plus now the store makes more sense, I wouldn't be surprised if they've been planning this for a while.
